Mobility Report

The mobility supply has a great influence on the choice of means of transport. An understanding of mobility demand and mobility needs is the first step towards a suitable transport and mobility offer. The most important methodology so far is to interview selected people about their mobility behavior on a reference date. Although this survey methodology is very time-consuming and provides very good findings, it is still criticized for subjectivity that cannot be ruled out. In the era of smartphones, all routes of the users can be recorded objectively and with little effort in an automated way. With an automatic recognition of the means of transport, the mobility demand of the users can thus be completely collected over a longer period of time. Advantages that could be achieved by this research project would be the extension of the survey duration, the insight into the multimodality behavior, the high survey quality and the possibility to enlarge the sample without additional effort. The data recorded with the app is used to optimize the transportation system and adapt mobility services to demand. These evaluations are only carried out on the basis of pseudonymized data, which do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about individuals.
