It’s a blank screen!

Whhat happpenned? You loose it?

Firmware updates broken

As of this writing, firmware updates are impossible for the Cobalt and Argon series due to a 500 error not being able to access the firmware server. Very disappointing from this company to hype the v2 Cobalt 8 firmware but make it impossible for users to get it.

The app works fine for other things.

Aggressively Good

Modal have the best app/hardware integration. Period.

No import or export of presets

It is great to have such an app for this synth for each of the main platforms. Unfortunately, there is no provision to import or export presets on iOS like there is on Windows.

Needs updating

The current version of the app on an iPhone 12 looks odd, won’t display the editor for Craft Synth 2, won’t upload samples to Craft Rhythm, and doesn’t route midi from midi controllers to any modal device, including the Skulpt and Argon8. I’m having to use a previous version on an old phone.

When the app functions properly, it’s fantastic.

Poor power management.

App works as intended but if you don’t force close it when you are done with it continues to consume a ridiculous amount of battery power, even if it isn’t connected to a synth.

Nice Could be better!

I don’t really like using the app. I prefer the hands-on controls of the Argon 8X but I do use it from time to time, it’s useful to get an overview of a patch, especially seeing all the mod assignments at once. I would use it so much more if Modal added iCloud support for preset import / export. Getting a USB cable long enough to reach my Mac is a real pain.

If the developers read this, PLEASE add iCloud Drive support. Your app desperately needs it.

Pointless.

It doesn’t work and asks me to connect the device, even though it’s connected. This app needs fixing or removing altogether.

Excellent

One of the best synth editors out there. Kudos to the Modal team for showing the industry how it should be done.

Crying out for better preset management

This is a great application - I use it on the Argon 8 - very handy to better visualise patches and especially sequencing.

Have had some problems with stuck notes when previewing sounds on the built in keyboard though.

Biggest problem is preset management. The are lots of great presets - but not arranged in any order. There’s no searchable tag on presets (most modern synths have this) - a ‘favourites’ tag would be fantastic. Also, text search on presets shouldn’t be difficult and would help a lot.

Latest update has fixed app crashing issue

Many thanks, app crash issue with iPad orientation now seems to be fixed. Well done for getting it resolved so quickly.

App

Great service and great app! Quick response from support when had an issue.

Support

I’ve had a bit of a snag with the app over the last couple of days with it not loading. I’ve been in touch with the iOS app support and although we’ve not sorted the problem, we’ve found a work around and I feel the support team at modal are on it! I just wanted to say how PLEASED I’ve been with the RESPONSE and PROMPT action from the app support. I saw quite a negative comment about customer support on the app page so I wanted to say my experience has been VERY POSITIVE and the response I’ve had has been very prompt. This is my first modal product and one of the main reasons for my purchase was the iOS editor. There aren’t many manufacturers that provide this as it is a challenge to provide a hardware editor that can be used on different platforms and devices. Especially when systems both hardware and software receive updates, a great deal of work is involved behind the scenes. We buy a synth once but these are the ongoing costs that Modal have taken on that are easily missed.

Thanks Modal for a great synth, service and an iOS editor that many others didn’t have the guts to do!

Excellent editor for a great synth

The Skulpt is one of my favorite synths. It’s very approachable for sound design, and with 32 detuneable oscillators it can produce some massive sounds. And as a bonus it’s tiny and cheap!
The app is, likewise, one of the best of its kind. Most editors are a barfed-up screenful of knobs, but this one shows the waveforms and envelopes visually. It could stand improvement — setting up mods is a PITA, and I’d love a grid-based sequencer — but I’m happy with it. I’d give the app alone four stars, but if you’re reading this you’re probably considering the synth(s) too, and the whole package deserves five.

Customer service???

Quite possibly the worse customer service I've experienced in years.

Best avoid & spend your money elsewhere!

Crash happy

Seems to make my Skulpt hang. Also when changing properties on the synth it should update in the app, but seems not to.

Oh Lord

Attempted the upgrade n now my Craftsynth is a Vegetable. How does one reset/re-install the initial firmware that came on the synth. I read the manual n scoured the Modal Electronics side and cannot find how correct this situation. The Craftsynth now has four blinking lights, when I connect power, saying it's brainless.

Way Ahead??

CraftApp

This is the perfect companion for the CRAFTsynth.

Modal Craft - Crafty Goodness

If you have the Modal Craft Synth you know how valuable this program is. It gives a fine and direct visual guide to programming this wonderful new mono-synth. It also expands the number of patches well beyond the sixteen which are flashed into the Craftsynth's memory. This app allows access to two more full (sixteen) banks of lovely presets, bringing the total of factory patches to forty eight. It also allows for the user to create and store an unlimited number of their own sonic creations.

The synth alone is a whole lotta awesome, and with the use of the app the tones I have been able to coax out of it beggar belief. This is NOT simply a toy, but a legitimate synthesizer which is capable of producing some harmonically rich and harmonically pure sounds. The bass can go from subtle and soothing to bone-crushing terror. The pads are surprisingly dense and varied, and can be fairly intense as well. The noises - bubbly and blippy and quite alien. I think that my personal favorite so far is the new-age pan flutes which I brought forth - superbly satisfying. I could talk about oscillators and filters and lfo's and such, but that's what the specs sheets are for.

If you are on the fence about getting the Craftsynth kit, watch the videos and reviews on SonicState and others. They are spot on accurate and give a good picture of what this combo (synth/app) are capable of. Although there are some aspects of this which might be frustrating for those just getting into electronic instruments, namely connecting a wired controller to the synth while also using the ipad, but there is likely a simple work around. Regardless, for what you get here, Modal has done a terrific job of creating a brilliant little digital mono-synth for the masses. I hope that this is in fact the first of many such creations.

Thank you Modal. Keep up the out of the box thinking.
