Great way to keep up to date
Been reading MR for many years, very informative and full of interest for anyone wanting to get the real news about the current railway industry, without the sensational rubbish poured out from mainstream media. Good selection of regular contributors who provide in depth news and analysis, particularly Roger Ford’s ‘Informed Sources’, and Ian Walmsley’s ‘Pan Up’, which both give in depth, often highly critical views, but always an accurate assessment of the real issues being covered. The magazine mainly looks at the UK rail scene, but also covers European and international railway news. I would highly recommend Modern Railways to anyone who has an interest in railways and who wants accurate information, rather than relying on the output from mainstream media, which invariably manage to get things wrong and completely mixed up, either through ignorance, laziness, or so often because of their own political agenda.

Great up but unfortunately miss out on special offers
The app is great and I am able to keep all my copies in the cloud which is fantastic, but unfortunately digital subscribers can’t access all the special offers that the publisher provides so that is one dissapointment
New update too sensitive
Could you please make the app less sensitive. Every time I scroll around the pages the contents tab pops up. Makes for a very poor reading experience and only happened since the last update. Disappointing.
Good content, badly presented
Great magazine but very poor app. It's basically just an image of the paper mag. See soundOnSound magazine for how to do an iPad edition properly.
Furthermore, issues sometimes fail to download in part or in full, and PocketMags are totally unresponsive. I don't think they care.
The magazine's editor fobs you off with "nothing to do with us, contact PocketMags" when you complain.

Dreadful app
This app is absolutely awful - I have fibre broadband but the magazine still (even on the allegedly revamped app) takes forever to download.
When it does it may or it may not let you read your magazine and odd pages appear if at all.
Drives you mad!
The app regularly crashes half way through download, or when coming back to magazines it may or may not let you access your purchases offline.
Absolutely dreadful - incredibly annoying and woefully unreliable - much like a few of Britains train operators!

Constantly crashes on launch or on the splash screen.
Please fix this - I've paid for a subscription!
Now crashes when you choose not to view the subscription offers, so it's not possible to buy a single issue.

App crashes
App crashes each time a new edition is received. This is a recurrent problem. Mag is great. App is cr*p. Happier when the mag was available through zinio
Modern Railways
I am very happy receiving Modern Railways on my iPad. Ok, so is nowhere near as good as having a top quality glossy magazine in my hand, but for me getting the mag on publication date rather than two months later far outweighs the inconvenience of having to scroll around the pages. As for the mag itself, what better way to keep up with the UK rail scene and industry? Well written, well researched and informative articles presented in a top quality format. I'll give it 5-stars!

Good app, excellent magazine
Works well overall. Huge improvement on the zinio fiasco where they cancelled my subscription with no refund. This app seems to be better supported by the publisher. One small flaw is that some pictures don't zoom far enough to see the detail. Actual content of the magazine is as good as ever, barring Alan Williams who needs pour himself a long drink and cheer up :-)

Fix this
As another reviewer has observed, the Pocket Mags app obstinately refuses to download the magazine (the latest issue refuses to get beyond the 39% mark).
Very special, particularly after springing for an annual subscription to Modern Railways - although this bug has been around for all Pocket Mags offerings.

Disgraceful
Total con. Doesn't work. Download at your peril.
Shocking app
People are paying money for this and it keeps crashing, sort it out. I've not been able to read what I've paid for yet.
Modern Railways
I thought the latest version had sorted out the bugs, but it appears not. In the latest (October) issue, a dozen pages in the middle obstinately refuse to download, and the navigation, which was fairly straightforward in the last version, is about as user-friendly as a ticket inspector when you've caught the wrong train by mistake. Sorry, I've persevered for a year and am giving up. Back to the station newsstands.

Underpowered slow servers.....don't know why these..
Don't know why these magazines continue with such a clunky slow service like Pocketmags...there are so many much better ones out there (Zinio for one). I buy magazines, not only does it take ages to download ( and no it's not my connection as everything else including the above competitor downloads in a heart beat at the same time). There customer service is a joke....must be part time school students given the dismissive level of answers sent back. I can only assume they are spending little on servers and speed and pocketing the profit. Magazines, and you wonder why your dying... One star.....if only I could get my money back.

Slow!
Too slow & unreliable!
Not quick enough
Have to agree with Hoagy's comment about late arrival of digital version. Print version needs to be printed, collated and then physically distributed whilst I'm still sat here waiting for the digital edition!
Not good enough...

Modern Railways
Has a surprisingly old fashioned look ( perhaps that it the source magazine?) and no links at all. Looks first generation of a progress on which we are now entering the third. However, it opens easily, tells me when new issues are available and displays them correctly

Great mag
Such a good mag. 5 stars
Very unstable
This application is extremely unstable and often freezes or force closes. It is also impossible to read a magazine while not connected to the Internet.
Very disappointed.
