Performance issues on older iPads

The best mid player, but there are some performance issues on older iOads that were nit present before versions 4.2 & 4.3.

Latest update has rendered Modizer useless

The most recent update has caused most of the UI to disappear so I no longer have access to online content like Modland or HVSC, can’t change any settings and can only play locally stored files. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling several times to no avail. So this went from a 5 star app to 0 stars as it is essentially bricked, with no way to restore anything.

Good, but has issues

Updating in 2026: I spent the past year carefully curating playlists from each and every console system, arcades, and home computers. I fly a lot and would work on my playlists on every flight. I’ve probably spent 50+ hours on them… this latest update wiped out all my playlists. They’re still there but they’re all empty now. Absolutely frustrated beyond belief right now. 🤬

Updating review in 2024: the developer is actively supporting and updating the app again, and has made quite a few improvements and fixes, including fixing the crashes that were previously happening. They’re also adding some experimental new features like automatic silence detection which is helpful for some game music formats that don’t contain song length data. This is easily the best vgm player in the app store and worth a few bucks.

**Original review below**
Overall probably the best mod/vgm player on the app store. It plays custom formats (amiga, arcade, genesis, etc) very accurately and supports a huge number of formats. The ability to download your favorite music from inside the app is fantastic. I also really like that you can easily view information stored in the custom formats, for example HVSC notes. But now for the bad news… Unfortunately, there are two pretty big issues: 1) trying to download from some integrated menus like vgmrips causes an instant app crash 100% of the time, and it’s been this way for months, which means I’m stuck with whatever songs I’ve already downloaded before this bug was introduced. Being unable to download new music on a music app seems like it should be a high priority to fix. 2) navigating through your music library and playlists is really confusing, it’s easy to get lost and hard to find the music you want sometimes. I’m not a user interface designer so I have no suggestions on how to fix it, I just know that it’s not very intuitive. Our choices for custom format game music playback on mobile devices is incredibly limited, and so this is probably your best option. Just know beforehand that there are going to be some rather large annoyances while using it.

Response from developer

Update from 2026: sorry for this issue with playlists upgrade process that wiped them. Issue is now fixed since v4.3. Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback. Don't hesitate to contact the support using the integrated link in 'other' tab. Regarding the vgmrips crash, please try to clean the database & reset your settings (other/maintenance). If still KO, please rename your VGMRips folder in 'Library' tab by swiping it to the right. Lastly please uninstall / reinstall (you might want to save your Modizer folder in the cloud before using the File app).

Best mod player by far

Plays the greats, counts the plays, updates the play count on databases, visualisers, lots of options for aliasing, panning etc. It’s the shiznit.

Nice, but...

My playlist doesn't refresh after deleting many songs via iPhone's iOS v18.7.2's Files app.
