Great app
Rarely do I write reviews, but this app truly deserves one. Thank you to the developers for creating such a wonderful, convenient, and minimalist journaling app! It helps me keep track of my state of mind. I would love to see a feature for adding pictures, but even without it, the app is already remarkable :)

It gives me head space I needed
Sometimes I write everyday, sometimes I’ll go weeks. Sometimes I write so much from far away it probably looks like a story. I haven’t wrote my thoughts out most of the holiday season and now that it’s the new year I’m back, it feels almost like a craving. I’m not sure what it will satisfy, hopefully I’ll know down the road. Thank you though for this.

Absolutely love this app. By far the best journaling app ever.
I absolutely love this app and I hope it doesn’t go away. Feels like having a conversation across time.
The interface is lovely and the timeline view makes it feel like you’re having an interdimensional conversation with yourself across time.
It’s by far the best journaling app I’ve used. It amazes me that no other app has this lovely timeline / text interface feeling.
It really gives you insight into your thoughts across the years. I love it.

Absolutely love this app
No chance I’m not top ~3% of Monologue users. Such a sick app, so simple. Literally don’t change it, I love it.
Cool so far
I have had it for a couple days and it’s been really fun to use. I like the idea of it being like a texting platform. But I wish I could insert photos from current moments.

I want to love this app so badly- the concept is great. But firstly, i believe a person’s content and engagement of their JOURNAL should be completely private— that’s not the case with this app. I’ll post the statements I find most concerning at the end of this review- please at least know that they do sell your info to third parties.
Regarding the app itself: again, love the concept. But it’s not exactly like texting since you can’t post pictures; additional entry methods like photos and audio clips would make this phenomenal. I don’t believe adding these features would disrupt their signature simplicity of the app.
It’s cool that you can reply to old post! There’s so much potential here, but that’s a nonstarter for as long as they have this (cheeky) Privacy policy.

Feels like I’m talking to a friend
Sometimes I feel like writing out my thoughts to someone but don’t necessarily what to vent to anyone in particular. This app is so perfect, I’ve downloaded many apps trying to find one that makes me feel comfortable and satisfied. Thank you for this app truly. I never ever write reviews but after trying out this app, as simple as it is, it is amazing. Something I wish I could do and recommend is be able to post/upload images to the chat as well.

Just wish it had iCloud support.
Love this app and everything about it. It just needs iCloud support so that my entries can be backed up automatically. I don’t like the idea of having to export it and then possibly have to import it.
Amazing but might have one annoying bug
OK just get this app if you write, especially if you’re a daily writer like me. It’s the best even with the bug. It’s great for compulsive writers like me who are often jotting down ideas at work with no time to really hunker down. Then you can get home and put together the concept, and not lose the important elements you were pondering earlier. I hope to see the feature additions like reorganizing entries and to expanding/collapsing notes. This would be helpful when you realize a subsequent entry would add more life as coming before the element that inspired it. And notes have no real distinction as an entry type as far as I can tell besides some extra visual padding. Ok, now the bug 🐛: if you add to an entry by pasting text from elsewhere and it doesn’t seem to show up when you hit “add,” you will see the entry only when you go to the “all entries” view. You will not see it added on to the specific story you added it to. It is intermittent, so it may not happen at all for you, but if this happens it can be fixed by typing a short entry like “12345.” Hit add and you should now see 12345 in the story view that you’re in. Now paste the text you wanted to that wasn’t showing up and it should show up now. Then just delete the 12345 entry.

amazing concept & design
The app has a lovely design & function, & I love the concept of journaling through text messages!!
PROS:
+ clean UI with few distractions
+ unobtrusive ads
+ dark mode
+ you can separate sections into ‘stories’, which have a colored quote bar in the “view all” section, & as well as headers (that look like names in a chat log)
+ customizable colors for stories
CONS:
- no formatting options (this is not a major con imo, but if it’s something you want, you should be aware of it!)
- no custom icons for stories (colored icon, yes, pic, no)
- being unable to copy messages without first clicking ‘edit’ then, ‘select all’
The cons are minor in my opinion, & I *definitely* recommend the app, if the above sounds appealing to you!
It’s not exactly what I was looking for when I was combing the appstore, but I downloaded it on a whim & found it lovely! Now I want something similar, but fiction oriented (my original purpose!) Still, def planning on keeping it, & making use of it somehow, bc I love it so much!

Best so far
I was looking for a texting-style journaling app to get my thoughts down quicker and this definitely fits the bill. I love the clean design and ability to reply to past thoughts. I also appreciate the developers still updating it after so long. In future updates I’d love the ability to add photos like others have mentioned but perhaps more so I’d really like the ability to export my journal entries in another format besides JSON. It’s difficult finding apps that support that format and it’d be very helpful if I could export things as a PDF rather so I can save them in more places and share them more easily. Thanks again for making this app and hope the developers find time/value in adding these things in the future!

just what i was looking for.
hey so i used to have this app called “text notes” or text journal or something like that but my phone got deleted and i never found it on the app store again ... but i found this app and it’s the next best thing. i love venting online but sometimes hate how others can see what i’m talking abt .. and sometimes i just wanna text my feelings to someone but not necessarily have them reply. if you feel the same way, this app is perfect. ty for listening 2 my ted talk

Great for a thought logger for when you’re high.
I wanted to find an application to quickly log thoughts that came to me while I was high, as weird as that sounds. This app is perfect for that.

I love this concept, the idea of journaling to yourself in the form of texting? Genius. Very much relevant and with the current time. I think we’re shifting to this but you’re early in the game! Keep it up.
The UI is sleek and minimalist. The way it should be, this app didn’t try to overdo it like a lot of other ones do.
I will give a suggestion: I often use the “reply to text” option a lot in my journaling and I would LOVE to be able to “hide” and “show” my replied texts, to wear it only shows the original, stand-alone text—and all the replies would be hidden. That would be a GAME-CHANGER.
I honestly believe that’s one of the only things it really NEEDS. Anything else would be icing on the cake. That, add filters and additional adjustments to the settings and just keep on updating it as this app ages!

I love this app, perfect for quick notes and getting your thoughts out real quick. I only wish I could add pictures and either had more color options for story types or even better-a color wheel.
hands-down best journaling app
monologue is so genius! i’ve downloaded so many journal apps aspirationally and i’ve never been able to commit to even two entries on any of them. duh, make it as simple as texting yourself. i’ve discovered i am an amazing text conversationalist. i use this app constantly to jot down my thoughts and write myself reminders all the time and it works, people! plus there’s a search feature so you could complicate your “entries” by tagging if you wanted. my one plea is that an option be made available to back these entries up (either cloud-based or even just being able to export as a text doc or pdf or something). i would pay for that feature. also maybe a FaceID/passcode option for security.
p.s. this is the first review i’ve ever written (not just on the app store — literally anywhere), which should hopefully be a testament to how much i love this app.
