Hints

Why show what the missing card is; ie: 9 of hearts follows an 8. Deleting before I’ve even played 1 game because of it.

I learnt this game I the1950s from my grandma. She called it ‘once in a blue moon’ as it’s rare to get it out.

My only ‘complaint’ is I’d like it if I could choose not to have the next card to be placed visible.

What is Montana Solitaire?

Montana Solitaire, also known as Gaps or Spaces, is a card game where the objective is to arrange all 52 cards into four rows. Each row should contain cards of a single suit in ascending order from 2 to King.

How do I play Montana Solitaire?

Cards are dealt face up into four rows, and Aces are removed to create blank spaces. You can move a card to a blank spot if it's one rank higher than the card to the left of the blank and from the same suit. Special rules apply for the first column and Kings.

What are the shuffle and undo features?

If you get stuck, you can use the 'Shuffle Remaining' button to redeal cards not in sequence. There are limited shuffles allowed. The 'Undo' button lets you reverse moves, but using it deducts points from your score.

What is the goal of the game and how is scoring calculated?

The goal is to complete all four rows with cards in ascending order. You score points for each card in sequence. Bonus points are awarded for remaining shuffles, while using the undo button incurs a penalty.

Is Montana Solitaire difficult to win?

The chance of winning a standard game is estimated at 1 in 20. However, when played as a puzzle with unlimited use of the Redo command, it is considered nearly always winnable.
