Very happily purchased once noticing this game in the App Store! The graphics and sound effects are just as I remember them from the 80s. The controls are an adjustment as I, quite like other commenters, played with a joystick. But once you get used to them I would say they work pretty good. Played all the way through beating each of the 9 levels and some!

Would be amazing if not for the unresponsive and imprecise controls. They miss jumps and directional taps so often I stopped playing this game due to frustration of unnecessary lost lives. I tried all kids of control settings but none work well enough to actually enjoy the game. Please fix the issue so I can start playing this iconic oldie again.

In a room in the second half of the first level, the walls are invisible, and i can’t get through. Please fix this invisible wall bug.

Great classic
Very impressed with how this game plays, was a little disappointed to find that using with iOS does not allow the use of a controller, however, customer service went above and beyond to try and reconcile the issue, so they are still getting 5 stars from me. Please look into making some more retro games, such as “shamus” or “spelunker” or maybe “pharaoh’s curse”. I’d pay for all three!

Edit: I like the new updates. This is the first video game I ever played, back in the 80’s on the computer. This game is friggin iconic, a legend, it paved the way for so many games to come. How crazy is it that this is actually available? Thank you to all involved. Lastly, I don’t think it’s physically possible to beat every level!!! I might be the first, but it will take years. Haha
2nd edit: wow I didnt see this coming! Great new update, the modern version is awesome looking, big changes. Plays a little smoother too. Wootwoot

Lies in the description
The description of the game says it has joystick support. It does not. It does not recognize my controller at all. This is an old game from the 80s that was meant to play with a controller. Touch screen controls are just not the same.

The New update is great! However I preferred the classic menu theme with the classic audio compared to the New One. It would be great if you could have the option to choose your menu and audio theme! 🙏🏼

Terrible controls even on iPad Pro12.9”
Prior versions on iOS worked better, especially jumping
The early iOS version worked better than the most recent version. I used to be able to jump left or right from a standstill, now you have to move before jumping. That makes it very difficult to pass certain rooms.
I actually completed all levels in the early iOS version, it’s impossible now.

... its touch screen controls are hard compared to joysticks and clicky keyboards from the rad 80s.

I am not someone that spend money on games for my mobile. But Montezuma is not a game it’s a legend... hours and hours of joy with the Atari 8bit, a game that does a lot with so little.
But as of today’s standard the conversion suffer from crucial flaws and bugs that destroy brick by brick what was build with so much effort.
Please fix and honour the legend.

App error iOS 13
Loved the game so decided to buy it on the App Store but unfortunately there is an issue with the display screen on iOS13. When the screen tilts it only displays half the screen on both iPhone and iPad. Very disappointed that I spent money on a game that I am unable to play.
