Here’s the quick science:
• Ultrasonic pest repellers are controversial. The idea is that certain insects (and sometimes rodents) can detect high-frequency sounds humans can’t hear, and it bothers them enough to leave.
• For flies specifically, there’s little to no reliable evidence that any sound frequency—12, 15, 20, 21, or 22 kHz—will consistently repel them. Most research says flies navigate more by vision, smell, and air movement than sound.
• The ranges you listed (12–22 kHz) are on the low end of ultrasonic. Humans can sometimes hear up to ~20 kHz, so some of these may still be faintly audible to you, but flies? They’re not known to respond predictably to them.
