Locked behind hidden paywall

App is advertised as free or Atleast no ads mention the pay wall. But you get hit with the subscription notice before you’re done even making an account. 30$ a month is literally outrageous. Stay far away from

Worthless

It was obvious as soon as I began using this app that it was created not by movie lovers, but by soulless tech entrepreneurs. From the bland, condescending “positivity” of the introductory text, to the outrageous pricing, to the AI chats, to the relatively featureless and clunky interface, this app—which the company keeps hyping via paid influencers—is an immediate delete-from-my-device. And devs, don’t bother replying to this review with your prefab damage-control script.

Scammm

$50 / year for a movie rating service for what. This should be free. At most, one standard price of $2.99.

Poor App

Did not make good recommendations for movies or friends. Tiers are not customizable and follow a nonsensical scale. The same movies are constantly listed/suggested rather than uploading new options. If I scrolled past it and hit refresh, refresh all new movies, not just a few. Royal waste of time.

Fun app!

I never write reviews, but I am loving MoviePal. It’s such a fun and easy way to keep track of movies, rank them, and see what my friends are watching. I especially love the DM feature and FYP, it makes discovering movies and sharing recommendations so much more fun. Such a great app!

FAQ

What does MoviePal do?

MoviePal helps you discover personalized movie and TV show recommendations. It uses a unique tier list system where you rank titles, and then it provides tailored suggestions based on your preferences and those of users with similar tastes.

How does the tier list feature work?

Instead of traditional star ratings, you can create tier lists (e.g., S, A, B, C, F) for movies and shows. This allows for a more nuanced and fun way to express your preferences, which then fuels the recommendation engine.

Is MoviePal free to use?

A MoviePal subscription is required for full access to its features and content. This subscription allows you to enjoy all aspects of the app, including personalized recommendations and social features.

Can I get recommendations for specific streaming services?

Yes, you can filter recommendations by your available streaming services. This ensures that you only receive suggestions for content that you can actually watch on platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Max, and more.

How does MoviePal help when watching with friends or family?

MoviePal excels at group viewing by analyzing the tier lists of multiple users. It can then find recommendations that are likely to be enjoyed by everyone in your friend group, making movie nights easier and more enjoyable.
