not a free app + potential undisclosed ads
all of the ads (undisclosed btw) for this app claim that this is a great letterboxed alternative as it’s so much better because you can send DMs. maybe it is a better app than letterboxd… i will never know because as soon as i tried to give it a try and make an account, i was prompted to start a free trial that would auto renew for $30 a month. mind u, this app is marketed as basically just a movie recommendation (ai?) machine. you can also rank movies in tier lists and “connect with other movie lovers”.
lettterboxd is free. there is an option to pay through patreon for no ads and other premium features but the app is completely usable and enjoyable without a subscription. this app feels like a cash grab rather than and genuine attempt to cater towards and create an app that film and tv lovers have wanted for a long time.
i wanted to genuine give this app a try, however, i will not waste my time or money on an app that pretty much already exists and has a way bigger community. letterboxd definitely isn’t perfect (that’s why i wanted to try this app in the first place after hearing about it in undisclosed ads on instagram!) but at least it’s not shady.

I’m very new to the app so probably have found everything out quite yet but one thing I’d love is a profile picture to add. Very basic app for movie fans to recommend movies/shows and see others tier listings.

Cool idea of an app, but the service being behind a paywall is genuinely not the move. At least give people a limited free version to get used to the app.

This app is genuinely so stupid😭😭 Heard people saying it’s the new Letterboxd but how is it supposed to help as a movie social media when you have to pay a subscription to use it 😭😭😭 This a joke. This app has been great so far!! I’ve found a bunch of new movies and shows I never would have found otherwise through recommendations. It’s also been fun to see what tiers other people rank popular movies and shows in.

I have always loved movies and I hate how outdated Letterboxd is. Im so glad I finally have a user-friendly app to log all my recent watches. My favorite feature is how it suggests movies based off my tier list. An absolute must-have app for all movie lovers.

Is there a way to get this without a subscription? Cuz otherwise this might be the dumbest app to be paywalled. Just make irl friends who are into film or go find recs through reddit or letterboxd (for free btw).
