About
Musical Sets is a pitch-class set analysis app for musicians, composers, theorists, and students working with musical set theory.
Select pitch classes from a keyboard and inspect the resulting set through a pitch-class clock, staff notation, prime form, Forte number, interval-class vector, complement, subset-class vector, tonal analysis, transpositions, symmetries, and similarity comparisons.
The app is designed for quick exploration of abstract pitch-class collections. It helps compare set classes, study complements and subsets, inspect inversional and transpositional relationships, and evaluate tonal or consonance-related properties.
Features include:
Pitch-class keyboard input
Pitch-class clock visualization
Staff notation with enharmonic spelling
Contextual pitch spelling, such as C-Eb-G for C minor
Prime form and Forte classification
Interval-class vector
Complement analysis
Subset-class vector
Tonal center estimates
Huron consonance estimate
Transpositions and symmetries
Inversion and related set-class observations
Expcos-similarity comparisons between set classes
Musical Sets focuses on pitch-class content rather than rhythm, register, instrumentation, tuning, or stylistic interpretation. The results are intended as analytical aids to be used alongside listening, score study, and musical context.
