Took away the access to control volume through iPad/iPhone side controls. Would be nice to have this back. Don’t understand why it was removed.
You never know
Very unreliable software. You never know what’s going to happen. Rooms disappear, things disconnect and massive random problems over 5 years. I have to much money in Yamaha to change.

Tidal direct connection was removed , why???
Update not the best
Losing the ability to control using the iPhone volume sidebar takes away a wonderfully simple function. Restore that.

It works well i'd say 75% of the time. other times it just quits. needs full reset of all speakers. it can be annoying.
Complete garbage
I have a Yamaha 1080 hard wired and read Musiccast rear surround speakers. This buggy, poorly coded app makes it a PITA to get the speakers connected. Many retries with failed connection to my WiFi with valid creds. Then one day they just randomly disconnect and I have to repeat the entire PITA process. I will never buy another Yamaha product again.

Love minus one flaw
Often when I open the app and I already have music playing, the volume will sink down to inaudible. I’m often going into the app to raise the volume so this is double infuriating. Otherwise it’s pretty great.
Sound system
So easy to use. Find Music Cast an easier system and superior to Sonos.
Used to love it
While I never loved having to use the TV as a monitor to set up the system and finding what you wanted in those settings didn’t seem intuitive I muddled through. Now Not sure why Yamaha dropped the Alexa skill. It was great to control music throughout the house with your voice. Hands dirty from cooking? Tell Alexa to turn up down off on skip etc.

Really Poor WiFi/airplay implementation
Changed my wireless router and unfortunately had to change the SSID (it did work decently before). Now every time I stop listening to music musiccast looses connection to the unit. I have to reconnect by going through add a new device. It sucks. New WAP is an eeros mesh system and speed test shows >25Mbs and the Yamaha is 15 feet from the WAP. No problem with any other wireless devices.

It’s great when it works
Streaming cuts in and out randomly. My WiFi signal is extremely strong. I added a larger antenna to the receiver and still I’m having problems. I can connect up a Sonos speaker in the same location and have no problems. I’ve reached out to Yamaha tech support and the only advice they had is to send the unit in and pay for diagnostics. I should have just spent the money on a Sonos or blue sound. I’m pretty sure the issues are software related - the MusicCast controller/app is outdated and glitchy.

Too Complicated
In today’s day and age things just don’t have to be this complicated especially if you are just trying to listen to music with an AV Receiver.
Does what it needs to, UX is awful
It is workable, but there are too many small issues with the Ux for me to start describing them.
iPhone buttons volume control missing?
The latest update (6/4/2026) appears to have lost the ability to select using the iPhone volume buttons, to directly control the volume. Or did it move. Hours wasted trying to find that setting in your non-intuitive, various settings.
Bring back sleep timer!
I used the sleep timer daily and you removed it with your UI update!? Don't remove basic features!

Avoid Yamaha receivers so you don’t have to deal with this.
The app just doesn’t work. I use the app in my office with a RX-V6A for 6-8 hours a day. Multiple times a day the app just stops playing music. Sometimes after 3 songs sometimes 10 but it always happens. The app won’t load any music frequently. The app won’t load the different ways to sort music. And the next song button freezes the app. Half the time it just stops responding when you hit next. 20% of the time it just doesn’t move to the next song and you have to reset the entire app and hope it works this time.
Avoid using this it will aggravate you. Do not get a Yamaha receiver and expect to be able to just play music. You need an external streamer like a WiiM if you want a usable interface to just pick what song you want to listen to.
