Worst connectivity

It’s keeps losing my three Yamaha audio systems. I have to start from scratch every time.

When it works it works well

I’ve set up the surround sound several times. It keeps losing the wifi rear speakers. Sometimes I get them connected and other times they won’t connect but I can play audio on them. I wish it kept them as part of the surround sound setup but it keeps dropping the speakers.

Garbage

In my whole life I have never seen something like this. I am definitely changing my receiver to another brand.

Important missing feature

I have noticed the software cannot access the full system settings. Using the tiny built-in display is painful. That is the only disappointment 😁. It is a beautiful piece of equipment and the software seems reliable so far.

Très satisfait 😉

Sound

Good quality

Party mode

The app is good.
But can you put an easier access to party mode.

MusicCast

Great app and music products!

Volume down button too close to slider

Can someone in the UI department stop putting volume up/down buttons so close to the edge of the slider? As soon as it’s the close the UI goes into slider mode when tapping and suddenly you’ve dropped audio to nil.

8 years of misery

I’ve been using this app for the past 8 yrs, at first just with my ysp 2700, I then decided to expand my system to a multi room set up and purchased 2 music cast 20 speakers to pair as stereo and connect with the sound bar, at first all went well everything connected set up two rooms one just for the sound bar for watching tv and one with all three connected for listening to music all good, then my sound bar started going out of sync with the speakers, then my music listening room settings vanished, for the last two years every time I want to connect it all together I have to start from scratch to pair everything which is also in itself a pain in the neck, although I love my Yamaha components this app and the connectivity issues really let them down.

Upgrades urghhh

Every upgrade means disconnecting / unplugging/ reconnecting or reloading unit to phone/device… so painful 😖

Version 7.0 issues

Version 7.0 has rendered this app unusable. Will not load on iOS 26.5. This impacts my MusicCast system and makes it useless. I think it is time that I back another brand, Yamaha clearly have lost their way.

App not opening in iOS

After several years of flawless use with my Yamaha network receivers, suddenly the app will not open. I’ve tried all the suggested fixes. iOS 26.5, app version 7.0. Yamaha, please fix this.

App update

Timer function has been hidden in the sound settings menu (not logical) and removed from the playing screen - backwards move

Very satisfied, except.

I been using this connected to my RX-V6A for a few months now. I am extremely pleased with the control of the device except occasionally it refuses to see my device. I find I need to do nothing but exit the app and leave it a minute or two where it will then connect. Once it connects it seems very stable. Overall I’m very impressed. I am using it via wi-fi with the router 7 meters away and Latest update. I may try to cable it as was suggested.

11th June, 2026

Started working again early this morning.
Strangely, no change in the version number?

For those experiencing network connection issues, I discovered that using an Ethernet cable between tuner and modem was an instant solution.

If the two items are fairly close it will probably work for you.

Home listening

With a reasonable collection of physical music sources (vinyl, CDs – and cassettes!), I enjoy also being able to listen to purchased digital music on the home sound system – thanks to the MusicCast app :)

Junk, DON’T BUY YAMAHA

Edit again, 06/2026. Music Cast is the only app that consistently gets worse with each update. It’s garbage, there is no other word. I was waiting for the update to see if there will be fixes but these clowns clearly don’t know what they’re doing. Same bugs that are worse now and more bugs introduced. I’m not a beta tester so this is the end for me, I’m getting a different receiver and will never buy Yamaha garbage again.

Edit: in addition to the below original review. Latest version ADDED bugs. Now I can’t turn off my receiver without hitting the power button a dozen times. Volume control is whack now, sometimes I can turn up the volume sometimes I can’t. If I adjust the volume it’s laggy, like 10-15 seconds before the volume actually changes. Junk software.

Garbage Switched to new wifi and internet provider and now it won’t connect. Apparently with a wifi 7 router it won’t connect. So WTAF good is my hardware now? I don’t understand why everything has to be unnecessarily complicated these days. I now regret buying this Yamaha POS and getting caught up with a stupid app just to listen to my music, which I can’t do now. Thousands of dollars, no music.

Total disaster -

MusicCast is the biggest piece of junk ever made. Developers - why can’t you make this just work? Even Alexa Pods are better than this. Worst investment ever.
