What's New in My Diaries

1.2

# MyDiary 1.2 — What's New Handwriting search, a Mac app, widgets, and a year view that doubles as a streak map. • Search your handwriting. Every page is read as you write, so a word you wrote by hand three months ago is findable — and it reaches Spotlight too. • A Mac app, with the tools along the foot of the window and the menus a Mac expects. • Home Screen widgets: today's page, and your writing streak. • A year view that shows every day you wrote at a glance. • List mode skips the empty days. • On This Day — what the rest of the world was doing on this date, plus a Murphy's Law quote of the day at the head of the page. • The day's weather beside the date, in your own units. • Duplicate or move a page — or a single block — to another day. • Notebooks now show their pages down the left on iPad and Mac, and say where you are: "page 4 of 12". • Drag the line under an hour to give it more room. • Dark mode throughout: the paper darkens at night and the ink follows. • Export or share any page as a PDF, a visual page, or a PNG — and now save straight to Files. • An evening reminder, set up during the tour. • Journaling Suggestions, tags and moods, and photos that stay where you put them. Plus the usual round of fixes: locked books now seal everything they hold, settings sync between devices without a phone's layout following you to the Mac, and the Pencil draws on iPads that cannot hover. ## Fuller list, by area ### Finding things again - Handwriting recognition runs as you write, is kept with the page, and is searchable. Results reach Spotlight. - Browse by tag and by mood. - A year view that doubles as a streak map. - List mode, which skips days with nothing on them. ### The page - Murphy's Law quote of the day at the head of the page, with a refresh and a close button; closing it lasts the day. - On This Day: what happened on this date, and whose birthday it is. - The day's weather and temperature beside the date, in system units, with an opt-in to stamp it onto the page. - Drag the line under an hour to give that hour more room. - Tags shown only when a page has them. ### Notebooks - A scrollable column of page previews down the left on iPad and Mac. - "Page 4 of 12" rather than just a number. - New page moved into the page menu with the rest of the page actions. ### Capture - Capture into the hour it happened, filed as a card you can move. - Capture into notebooks, and a Shortcut that files into today. - Journaling Suggestions (iPhone and iPad). ### Sharing and export - Save any export straight to Files, as well as sharing it. - Whole-month and whole-notebook PDFs; visual page PDFs that look like the page; drawing PNGs. - Photos now appear in exported PDFs. - Backups can be saved to Files. ### Mac - A native Mac app. - Tools along the foot of the window. - The menus a Mac expects, and ⌘, for Settings. - Quits when the last window is closed. ### Appearance - Dark mode throughout: paper darkens at night, and ink drawn in the default colour follows the system rather than staying black on a dark page. - The toolbar follows the system appearance rather than the paper. - Hiding the toolbar now hides all of it. ### Fixes - Locked books seal everything they hold, not only the ink. - Settings sync between devices, without a phone's layout following you to a Mac. - The Pencil draws on iPads that cannot hover. - A meeting can be opened with a finger while the Pencil is in use. - Typing keeps up: no lost characters. - Encryption failures on the Mac, from a keychain the app could not reach.
