About

Speak for a few minutes and read back an essay in your own words. Soliloquy writes down what you say, then edits it. Your words appear on screen as you talk. Live guesses are shown separately from finalized words, and the finished transcript is tidied for reading. When you tap End, the app works back through the session and returns it as a titled essay in paragraphs. Nothing you say leaves your iPhone. There is no sign-in and no server. HOW IT WORKS While you speak, on-device speech recognition turns your words into text. Partial results let you follow along as recognition settles. When you finish, a language model running on your iPhone edits the transcript into prose. A last pass gives the essay its title. If polishing is interrupted, saved progress lets you resume. You set how far the editing goes on a five-step control. Verbatim uses simple text cleanup for the essay body. Balanced also splits run-on sentences and adds paragraphs. Essay rewrites your talking into flowing prose. Choose a separate length target: half the words by default, 40%, 30%, 20% or 10% shorter, or the same length. Lengths are approximate and apply to every AI editing strength; Verbatim keeps its simple cleanup. The raw transcript is saved next to every finished piece, so you can check what you actually said. GOOD FOR Thinking a problem through out loud Working out what you believe about something Turning a walk into a first draft Getting an idea down before it disappears Keeping a spoken journal that reads back like writing PRIVACY Speech recognition runs on your device. The writing model runs on your device. There is no account to create, and the app ships no analytics code. Each writer downloads once from Hugging Face. Once downloaded, the writing model runs offline on your iPhone. Switching writers may require another download. BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD Choose a writer during setup or in Settings. The Lightweight writer offers simple edits with less memory and a smaller download (great for older phones). It downloads about 900 MB and is selected by default on older phones. The Full writer offers more capable editing for newer phones and downloads about 1.8 GB. The optional Expressive writer (Blend10) downloads about 2.3 GB and is experimental, best on phones with 8 GB of memory or more. Downloads run in the background and use Wi-Fi by default; mobile data is an explicit option. Your choice is remembered, and the model loads only when you finish recording and start polishing. Requires iOS 26 or later.
