Essential for climbers looking to keep track of progress

I felt like I struck gold when I found this app. There’s an extensive list of workout videos specific for climbers. I have been looking for something like this online and it’s all here. You can personalize your workout and track progress. It’s helped me a lot to get stronger and work on technique.

Great so far.

I am 52 and hate exercise. Once I turned 50, yoga alone wasn’t enough to stop the onset of middle age body, so I started biking, and I got back Into climbing.

I love that this lets me track my daily climbs and my overall progress. When more people at my gym start using this (there are just a few of us now), I think this will be even more helpful in terms of finding climbing partners, which is my biggest challenge.

AMAZING

I LOVE this app. It is totally free and gives great workouts from experienced rock climbers. It allows me to track my climbing and finger board workouts along with specific workouts for your body and so much more. It allows me to focus more on my climbing and building muscle mass at the same time. This app allows you to go from beginner to expert or any level in between. I would recommend this app to absolutely anyone even if you don’t like rock climbing.

App is convoluted

Honestly the app doesn’t work well in regards to easily being able to log climbs via the photo for various options within the app and it’s a bit confusing to navigate from competitons to just sessions . It could be a lot better and user friendly . Not going to give it a high rating merely because it can track climbs , which is very cool , because I expect and easy to use app that’s got better inter app navigation . A bit disappointed I couldn’t pull it up on the internet as well.

Great app!

I’ve been searching for an app to track my climbs and other workouts (hangboard, core, etc.) and this app has it all. Not only are there pre-loaded workouts but you can create your own as well. Also love the feedback option to keep you motivated! The developers are always asking for feedback and adding updates, I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

Love it!

Love this app. I used to track all of my climbing on paper, but it started to get too time-consuming. I’ve tried several different apps but MyClimb has by far been the easiest to work with when it comes to tracking sessions and progress on projects. Plus they are super responsive when you email them! Looking forward to the future of this app very much!

Sad to go but my needs changed

I’ve used MyClimb for a long time and enjoy the social/matchup features as well as the reporting to track my progress. I had to make the choice to move to “Pinnacle” for the following reasons:
1. I needed a quick way to log climbs (via apple watch) during my climb session. Previously, I had to recall all my climbs after my session which doesn’t work for me.
2. I needed something to track my active calorie burn during my session which Pinnacle does.
3. I am very proactive about logging active calories burned so having the app automatically upload into Apple Health is important to me. It keeps my ring closing goals honest.
4. I really wanted to avoid double entry into Pinnacle and MyClimb.

I hope the developers for MyClimb consider including an Apple Watch component and the features/functions I mentioned. I’ll miss this community and keep up the awesome dev work!

Wonderful for tracking progress

I love this app so much for keeping track of which climbs I have done and how I am progressing (or not lol) through difficulties.

One thing I do wish is that the app allowed you to more easily input more information about an “attempted” climb (e.g. how many times did you fall, how many different places did you fall, did you make it to the top of the route, etc.).

I don’t like the update

When I go to log a climb manually there are some routes on there not from my gym even if I have it filtered. But it didn’t do that before I updated it. And the workouts are WAY too hard I liked how the workouts were before the update. You could choose to do an easy workout or a hard workout. But now their is only 1 workout I will actually probably be able to do for bouldering. So please change the workouts back to how they were. 😁 but this app is very helpful. But not the workouts. I know the workouts are supposed to be more personalized and I answered the “survey” correctly but it was way harder than I can climb. Also now when I get notifications they don’t show up on my home screen. I have to actually go into the app and go to notifications. So that’s annoying.

Thanks for the review! We fixed the bug, that you mentioned. Apologies for that bug, can we send you a free MyClimb chalk bag to make up for it (email us at contact@myclimbapp.com about it). Have you tried the 'Level 1' workouts. These are essentially the same as the previous workouts that we offered

Social media for climbers

This is a great way to track my improvement over time and to have some friendly competition with friends. I really like the find climbing partners feature as I’m relatively new to climbing and I only have a small handful of friends to go with, all of whom work odd hours that don’t always match my schedule. It’s also a great way to get workout ideas to push myself to the next level.

Extraordinarily Responsive Developer (plus a great app getting better every day)

I contacted the developer the other day with a note about an improvement; we’ve since exchange a number of emails and one fix is already in place!

Even absent that, the app best fits my needs of the ones I’ve tried, and it sounds like it’s only going to get better in subsequent releases. Excited to keep using it!

Improved

Edit: These issues have almost completely gone away, so I've revised my score to four stars.

I enjoy this app a lot when it works, but it gets stuck on the opening screen probably 75% of the time (100% if loading from a home screen notification) and I have to force quit the app and start over frequently. At least four times, it's given me a "something went wrong" message when trying to post a session and I've had to write down my climbs, delete the session, and reenter everything. I have an iPhone XS, but my friends with Androids have had some of these same issues. I've tried deleting and reinstalling with no difference in performance.

It's a fun and engaging app otherwise, and I guess the fact that I'm putting myself through all this to use it proves it.

apologies for your buggy experience! we are releasing a large backend update in late May, which will greatly improve the overall stability of the app! Can we send you a MyClimb chalk bag to make up for it? just email contact@myclimbapp.com about it, thanks!

Amazing training tool for climbing and bouldering!

I started indoor climbing a few months ago and wanted to build my endurance as well as track my progress. This is the perfect app for all of the things I needed in a training program. The workouts are perfect for Endurance and Strength building, they are completely exhausting which is exactly what they should be! I’ve even found friends in the app around the world by “competing” in climbing challenges all while doing what I’ve always done......climb! I can’t wait to start climbing outdoors and track my progress using the app as well!

Super handy, minor drawback

I used this app for the first time tonight and really like it. Only drawback (but something that I noticed right away) is that once you post a session, it doesn’t list the climbs in the order that you entered them in. When you go to edit the session, it still lists everything in that order, but otherwise once posted it’s a seemingly random order. Still poking around to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Figure out what you do, and get better at it

People often call me a data freak. It’s worth it.

I started climbing seriously in May 2018. Since then, I feel like I’ve made progress, but other than a feeling, like my hands hurting less and my arms getting stronger, I had no metric to measure my progress.

MyClimb is that metric. Although I’ve only used it for a few days, I’ve already started to see what I’m doing the most, how often I do a climb and how long it takes me for my hardest climb. That’s awesome. I have already cited places for improvement in my routine. And, other climbers have approached me and asked about beta, and I’ve returned the question for other routes. That’s really cool.

I have one wish–fewer help notes that pop-up while using the app. I appreciate the walkthrough, and I know others will as well. It can however feel like handholding.

Other than that, it’s a great app.

Thanks for the positive review! Looking forward to releasing new features for you in 2019 and yes we are redesigning the onboarding actually also to have less 'tips'!

Comprehensive and User Friendly

It is evident that a lot of thought went into the design and features of this app. I found it to be very intuitive and it allows for quick logging of climbs. The app provides lots of extra features to stay motivated and be encouraged by other’s accomplishments.

4 stars

The app has a great idea. I think the concept of it will get climbers together but if I could change anything I’d have a better section for workouts. Or when you’re picking the level of climb you could also input a workout, even if it’s something simple like weights vs cardio. I want to use this app as my only workout tracker. The layout is pretty intuitive, I’ve used it for about a week now and there’s no bugs. Overall, highly recommend it as a climbing tracker. It’d be nice if they had a graph to track progress but you can put one together yourself pretty easily.

Great progress and workout tracker.

I’ve been using this app for a couple months now. I love how I can have a virtual climbing journal! That’s essentially how I use it. It’s neat to look back on climbs you’ve done indoors and out, and see how you’ve improved. Also fun to keep it a little competitive with friends and family on points! Check it out, and keep on sending.

The way it used to be

Was very functional for logging purposes and for having embedded training notes. New version has been crashing too much for real time use and the hidden notes is annoying because I can’t easily name the problems I do/attempt. The social aspect is honestly pushing me away from continuing use because it’s becoming harder to use as the training log I need instead of having to integrate into a social challenge already present.

Hi sorry, about the crashing issue - will look into it asap! Would you mind emailing us at info@myclimbapp.com so that we can get your device info (will help us isolate the bug) - we will also get your info to send you a free MyClimb chalk bag, to help make up for this bug! We have several features in the works to improve the training / climbing log and goal setting! If you tap 'Climb Name', you it will open up the 'field' where you name the climb - so naming the Climb is still 1 click and you can do it this way instead of going into the expanded climb view

So helpful!

I love being able to track my climbing progress with MyClimb. There are also a couple of other climbers at my gyms who use this app, so it’s helpful for building a sense of community if you can support each other digitally when you’re not actually at the gym! I know some folks like to go analog and track climbs on paper but I find it’s been really useful to track digitally. I’ve been using My Climb for several years and have loved being able to pull up graphs charting my progress and showing where I’m at now vs. different points in my climbing history. Definitely worth using!
