Revamped version

This new “improved” version has a couple of nice new features but is badly let down by some basic UI issues and breakages in functionality that it should never have been released with.

Good
- Ability to select the handicap allowance - 95%, 90% etc. on the calculator page

- Groups. Can add friends(or golfers now) to a group and then see the course or adjusted handicaps for an entire group on the calculator page. Great for society days as you can see everyone’s playing handicap for the day without going to every single person’s page.

Bad
- Home page. Banner is way too big, around 40% of the screen area on an IPad. Then "golfers" scores are shown before my recent ones. As others have said, the main point of this app is to see my scores. If I want to see everybody else's scores, I would go to a dedicated page like before.

- Scores page. Font is too small and can see that they have distinguished between social and competition rounds using the outline of each score and then the light green flag to show counting ones. This might work on a PC screen, but does not work at all on a tablet or phone. There are so many better ways to present this, just ask an actual UX person.

- Player search/peer review. Can no longer search for a club then search for the player in that club. It must be broken because the options on this page are just filters. Unless someone is a friend or in your club, you can't check their handicap, which is essential when playing in something like the TravisMathew matchplay comp.

- Same problem as above but with the attestation. They have to be in your club or a "friend".

- My home club isn't even set as my Home club in the app, it's an Away club. Can't see how to change this in the app or the website. It would be more useful to have a favourite clubs that you can manage yourself and get quick handicap calculations for them.

The app wasn't great before but it did a job and had sensible visuals. This is a bad regression.

Absolutely awful

This is the first and only App Store review I’ve ever written. That’s how spectacularly bad this app has become since the so-called “upgrade”.

At first, I was delighted to see that rounds played outside England and Scotland could finally be entered. Unfortunately, that moment of optimism lasted about as long as a three-foot putt.

Rounds now seem to exist in a state of quantum uncertainty. They may or may not appear. They may or may not be attested. Your playing partner may or may not receive the attestation request. Nobody knows. Schrödinger himself would be impressed.

Even better, some rounds simply disappear into the ether without explanation. The app routinely fails at the most basic function it exists to perform: recording and processing golf scores.

The whole thing feels less like a finished product and more like a beta test that was accidentally released to the public.

If England Golf built this in-house, the development team should be nowhere near another software project. If it was outsourced, England Golf should demand a refund, recover every penny possible, and find a partner capable of delivering an app that can manage the revolutionary task of saving a golf score.

An upgrade is supposed to make things better. This one has turned a functional app into a masterclass in how not to release software.

Terrible redesign

They have redesigned the app to make it more about social features rather than the actual primary use of the app, placing “friends” above your recent scores! Like anyone is actually using that over checking their scores?!? Why do I now have to click through to see my graph and full latest scores? That is literally the primary reason we use the app - to track our handicap trend. Now we are greeted with a useless, narcissistic “MY EG” filling up half the home page. I already know it’s MY EG because I selected the app! I don’t need it to tell me in the app! Also, it’s become less clear which scores are counting and not, as they’ve replaced a big green circle with a piddly little flag and poorly contrasting colours… FIRE THESE UI FOOLS YOU HIRED TO MAKE THE APP LESS FRIENDLY ASAP

Latest update is dreadful

I’ve used the MyEG app for a number of years now with no issues whatsoever. Today (19th May 26) I received an email announcing an updated app. I downloaded it and it’s dreadful. There are error messages on various screens, the speed is slow on WiFi so what it’ll be like on the course is concerning. There also seems to be a shift in focus from you to friends in the app so they appear at the top of the home page. I then have to search to find my own scores/stats. I want the focus to be on my scores with the option of finding friends, not the other way around. The app is supposed to facilitate entering all scores when you play. As it stands I won’t even bother trying to login. This is just a distraction from golf not a way to record scores and stats as it used to be. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Absolutely awful

I am writing this after the latest May 2026 update which claims to fix a lot of the problems yet this app remains terrible. Slow to load, slow to create scorecards if that works at all. Presumably the influx of people trying the new app to see if it’s no longer terrible has overwhelmed the servers. Entirely predictable, entirely avoidable. Even when it settles down and things start working that won’t fix the awful UI, e.g. graph of hcp index where the data points in no way match my actual hcp index, black text on black backgrounds. And the worst part, this app is essentially mandatory to maintain a handicap AND I have paid for it through my annual subscription and yet I am being served adverts!
