About
Nahbei lets you know when a friend happens to be in your area or when your trips cross – and lets them know too. Nothing else: no feed, no chat, no live map.
HOW IT WORKS
• You connect with friends yourself: with a QR code in person or with an invite link. Both of you confirm before either of you sees anything.
• Nahbei notices in the background when you're in the same area – say a friend is in your city for the weekend, or you both happen to be in Lisbon.
• How you get in touch is up to you. “Message” opens the share sheet with a prepared text for the app of your choice.
TRIPS THAT CROSS
• Dictate: “October 3 to 8 in Hamburg, then until the 12th in Vienna” – the list builds while you speak. Speech recognition runs on your iPhone.
• From your calendar: flights with a route, train rides, hotels, vacations and other events with a destination at least 40 km from home (adjustable) become suggestions; your calendar is read on your iPhone only. Nothing is shared until you confirm – one tap shares them all.
• Or add trips by hand, with Siri or from the share sheet – for example from a booking confirmation.
• The trip map shows where your friends are headed and where your paths cross – only friends who agreed to appear on it, and only what someone shared by hand. Where someone is right now is never shown on a map.
• “Who’s there?” shows before a trip who in your circle lives there, will be there or is there right now.
YOUR RULES
• Turn visibility on or off for each friend, pause everything, or “Home only” – with no location in the background at all.
• Quiet hours, 10 pm to 7 am by default: alerts arrive quietly. Plus “Quiet alerts” for 3 hours or until 7 am, and per friend the choice between All, Trips only and Quiet.
• Block someone at any time: Nahbei then accepts no request, code or link from them.
• Widget for the Home Screen and the Lock Screen.
PRIVACY
• Your location is rounded on your iPhone to a cell of about 5 km – coarser with approximate location. Friends see the cell, the city and the country – never an address.
• Location and trips are end-to-end encrypted and readable only by friends you have confirmed. In iCloud, neither we nor Apple can read them; place names and the center of your cell are resolved by Apple’s maps service.
• No account. iCloud is only a mailbox for encrypted data; your location never passes through a server of ours.
• No ads, no tracking.
• “Delete all my data” in Settings disconnects you from all your friends – they’ll be told – and deletes what Nahbei stored for you in iCloud and everything on this iPhone.
• Only if you explicitly confirm it does a dictated text go to Claude (Anthropic) via our server, with the date and your time zone. Flight numbers without a route are looked up only if you turn this on for your calendar – then flight number and date go via our server to the flight schedule service AeroDataBox.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Nahbei works between friends: they need Nahbei too – on their own iPhone, with their own iCloud account.
• Try it first: the demo shows Nahbei with sample friends, without sharing anything.
• To notice in the background when you're close, Nahbei needs the “Always” location permission. It only uses Apple's energy-efficient detection of significant location changes, no continuous GPS. With “While Using”, Nahbei detects proximity only while it’s open; without location access you share only your home and your trips.
• iOS doesn't always wake Nahbei right after you move – so an alert may arrive a little later.
• If you haven’t opened Nahbei for 30 days, it asks on the last Sunday of the month at 6 pm whether your travel plans are still up to date.
