Needs more diversity

All of the models appear to be Caucasian. Many of my patients are African American or Hispanic. They are already struggling with their language concepts post stroke. Not having images consistent with their own experience doesn’t help would give it a higher rating except for this.

Response from developer

We recently updated the images in the app to better represent the diverse population that we serve. Thank you for your important feedback and please don't hesitate to contact us again with any other issues you might have: support@tactustherapy.com

Disappointing

Bought this because the free demo app was so disappointing, but this isn’t much better. Some of the initial sound phonemic cues are wrong and the cueing phrases for a target word are spoken in a childish and thus patronising voice for adults. In addition, it appears that a category set that bills itself as containing 50 items, in reality contains about 16 items that are simply repeated another two times. Very poor.

Response from developer

I'm sorry you were disappointed. We would love to know which initial sound cues were incorrect. Our voice is meant to be cheerful, but not childish. The number of items in a category is separate from the number of trials in a session, so if you select only a category with 16 items but choose 50 trials, you will see repetitions. We welcome all feedback to support@tactustherapy.com so we can address your concerns in a timely fashion or point you toward how to get a refund for your purchase. We do not want unhappy customers.

Mr

I was initially excited at how useful this app could be for therapy but it has a number of flaws; it's not possible to present exactly the customised pictures you enter as the system dictates that they are entered in multiples of 50 and also that they are presented in random order. So even if you have exactly 50 stimulus pictures they won't necessarily all get presented as the system randomises their presentation. Secondly, for each customisable stimulus picture there must be a sentence completion cue which I found tricky to complete. There is also a heavy US centric bias to the pre-supplied cues e.g. pretzel and their pronunciation.

Thank you for your valuable feedback! For fast and friendly technical support, please email info@tactustherapy.com. We updated the app in 2015 to include a new UK voice. If you want to see only one of each of your pictures, you can change the settings for "number of trials" to "all". Our randomization process will show you all the items if it can. If you do not use the sentence completion cues, you can record a second of silence to move on, or use a basic statement (known as a carrier phrase) such as "This is a....". We continue to update the app based on user feedback, so please email us anytime.

Naming Therapy

This is one amazing app. it was the first of all the Tactus Therapy apps I have purchased for my husband after his stroke just over a year ago.
His speech therapist at the time suggested we look into the app as she had just read a review about it's upcoming launch last August 2011. He really was still struggling with naming at the time and I anxiously kept watch for the release. The ease of use for him was awesome ( he was not used to using any technology). I had been using flashcards and picture cards with him, yet there were few that didn't appear child like. With this app his naming has improved so much along with his confidence level.
I still occasionally will cue him in our ongoing conversations, however he has come such a long way this past year. He tells people often, especially in his group therapy, how wonderful these apps are and the ease of use with the iPad. In fact we know of a few families that took his advice.
I can't thank Tactus Therpy Solutions enough for playing a role in my husbands ongoing reovery.

Wonderful app!

Before this app came along I think I had about 6 different apps to target confrontational naming for a variety of photos. This app has it all and it's my 'go-to' now. The photos are high quality and the app is easy to navigate. 5 stars!

Most used app

This is by far one of my most used apps in my clinical practice as a SLP and one of my most recommended apps as well. I love not having to carry a huge deck of cards around the hospital, and the patients are thrilled to use an iPad. Even some of the doctors have requested we "show them the pictures." But the part I love the MOST is the way the app collects data for me. HUGE time saver!

Wonderful app for Speech

Naming TherAppy is a fantastic app for for working with both children an adults who have trouble with expressive speech. With 4 different modes, name practice, name test, describe, and Flashcards, users get multiple chances to cement the information learned. The app is also very customizable!

SLP

LOVE this app! Use it for assessments as well ad therapy. Pictures very clear and easy for my patients to see!

great app with beautiful photographs!

I float around between multiple assisted living and skilled nursing buildings as well as home health with my iPad always in my bag. This is by far the app I use most for adults with aphasia as well as those in our dementia units to name functional objects, this app is second best to real objects! I also use it as a barrier task during dysarthria treatment where I have the patient describe as much about the photograph as I assess their intelligibility. The naming test is great as a mini-assessment you can record along with other assessments during progress notes for G-Codes.

Amazing adult app

I have been using this app frequently. Actually daily lately with a Wenickes aphasia patient in the hospital. iPad + Tactus apps = best acute care SLP tools! I also use them all in out patient and home care settings. Worth every penny. Highly recommended to SLPs working with adults. Also for patients/clients to purchase and use for homework practice.

Thank You!!

My husband had a stroke earlier this year and I searched all over looking for apps that I could use on my iPad and found Therappy! We used this naming one on a daily basis and even recommended it to our speech therapist to use for her patients. Thank you for making such a wonderful app & series. As of today my husband's aphasia has improved dramatically and I credit part of it to these apps! Thank you!

Wonderful App!

I had put off purchasing this app for a while because I didn't want to spend the money. When I finally caved, I was SO glad I did! This app has been great for both my pediatric as well as geriatric clients. There are so many options and and ways to customize that you can really use it for just about anyone! With such emphasis on data and accountability, this app really goes the distance in therapy and is well worth the money!!

Great app!

I have been using this app with my patients with aphasia at my hospital internship and they love it! It's very engaging and the variety of prompts are great!

Great app--age appropriate for preschool through adulthood

I originally bought this app to 1. get a better idea of how Tactus TherAppy apps performed, and 2. use it in presentations for speech-language pathology graduate students. I quickly realized how useful the app would be in my job as an itinerant speech-language therapist for preschoolers. I started by mostly using the "naming practice" portion. As I explored the app more, I realized how useful the "naming test" section was for objective data collection--I gave it to a couple children at the beginning of a quarter and then gave it again so I could easily get an objective measure of their progress. The "describe" section uses the concept of semantic feature analysis to strengthen semantic relationships. I haven't really used the "flashcards" section with my clients.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the app. It is easy to navigate, incorporates evidence-based techniques, and gives me an easy, objective way to take data. Very few apps I've encountered are age-appropriate for both adults and preschoolers. I will be working in a medical setting later this year and cannot wait to try out the app with adults with aphasia!

Used often

I used this app in a SNF setting during my internship. I look forward to using it again during my CF. Its so nice to just have an app to carry around instead of worrying about papers! I love the percentage feature to find out and chart any improvement I may observe.

Excellent

This app has been such an asset to my home-care patients with aphasia! They love the pictures and it is definitely a benefit not to carry around loads of picture cards.

Naming TherAppy

This app has proven to be very helpful for multiple children on my caseload who have difficulty using expanded descriptive language. The visual supports are subtle but available when needed. I especially appreciate the functional vocabulary and how it is divided into categories. This is a nicely organized and professionally developed app that I'm glad I added to my tool box.
