About
LIFE NATURA THEMIS lets any citizen report environmental violations in Crete, with a focus on protected NATURA 2000 areas.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Photograph the violation (up to 4 photos).
2. Add a short description.
3. Tap "Submit".
Your report goes to the team at the University of Crete – Natural History Museum of Crete, who assess it and forward it to the competent authorities.
COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS
No registration, no account, no email, no phone number. The app never asks for your name.
WORKS OFFLINE
Signal is often missing out in the field. The app stores your report on the device and sends it automatically as soon as a connection returns.
TRACK YOUR REPORT
The History screen shows the status of each report, and you are notified when it changes. You can withdraw a report within 3 days of submitting it.
WHAT YOU CAN REPORT
Illegal land clearing, vegetation removal, uncontrolled waste dumping, unauthorised road opening, soil extraction and other environmental violations.
CRETE ONLY
The app accepts reports from Crete only. Outside the island's boundaries, submission is disabled.
WHY LOCATION IS REQUIRED
Precise GPS coordinates are attached to every report and photo so the authorities can locate the site of the violation. Without them a report cannot be acted upon.
THE PROJECT
The app was originally developed in 2017 under the European LIFE NATURA THEMIS programme (LIFE14 GIE/GR/000026, 2015-2021) and rebuilt from scratch under HORIZON ENFORCE (HORIZON-CL6-2023-GOVERNANCE-01, 2024-2028).
Available in Greek and English.
