Imagine finding a wooded hillside full of chanterelles. The following year, you might only have a vague memory that it was somewhere along the gravel road. NaturaPin exists so you don't have to guess. Press the plus button, pick what you found, and the place is saved. It takes a second, with gloves on, in the rain. Back home on the sofa it is all still there on the map. MARK WHERE YOU STAND The app waits for three readings that are each accurate to within ten metres and saves the median of them. However accurate it turned out to be is always written out, in metres. Nothing here pretends to be more precise than it is. PLACE PINS BY HAND Somewhere you already know goes on the map with a sight in the middle of the screen. A hand-placed pin gets a small hand symbol, so you can tell a place you measured from a place you merely pointed at. MUSHROOMS, BERRIES, FISH — AND SOMEWHERE TO STOP Around thirty kinds are ready to use, from chanterelle and porcini to perch, pike and cloudberry, along with rest areas, campsites and motorhome stops. Missing something? Add it yourself: a name, a symbol and a colour. It does not have to be a species — a swimming spot, a woodshed or a gate works just as well. WEATHER AND DIRECTION OF TRAVEL Temperature, wind and conditions are fetched automatically when you mark a find. With no signal the find is saved anyway. Mark one while moving and the direction you were heading is saved with it — most useful for rest areas, where what you need to know next time is which side of the road it is on. FINDING YOUR WAY BACK TO THE CAR Mark Parking at the car door before you walk in. When you want to get back, tap the pin and then Directions. The kind is in the plus menu from the start. A PHOTO OF THE FIND Take one as you mark, or add it later — from the camera, or one already in Photos. The photo stays with the find. BACK IT UP One file holds everything — finds, photos, weather, time, position and direction — and goes wherever you choose to keep it. Finds can also be shared as GPX, the format other outdoor apps read. YOUR PLACES STAY YOURS No account, no sign-in, no server. Your finds live on your own device and nobody else can reach them. The only thing that ever leaves it is the coordinate of a find, sent to the weather service at the moment the weather is fetched — and the weather can be switched off. The app is written in Swedish, and that is the language it says exactly what it means in. Fifteen more are included, translated with the help of AI without a native speaker having read them through. It says so in the manual, and if you spot something that came out wrong you are welcome to write. NaturaPin does not tell you which mushroom you found. It is a map for marking places on, not an identification app — what is safe to eat is your decision, never the phone's.
