First app review

This is my first app review, and I wanted to say that this app is the epitome of cyberpunk, allowing you to browse reddit images and still see your surroundings in a virtual setting. I bought premium to use my own subreddits.

However, I can't rate this 5 stars because I've experienced a fair amount of app crashing on my 6s, iOS 10.2, even on default subreddits. Once the crashing stops in future updates I'd be happy to rate this 5 stars.

Pretty cool but room for improvement

Really cool to be able to browse on this but I wish text posts were visible.

A really neat app.

Escape from the world around you and browse cat photos on a mountain, or have funny gifs floating in your living room. This app is really cool, but sort of has limited uses. This version has a lot of good bug fixes. I would love a YouTube browser version of this idea or integration.

Crashes every time I turn it to landscape

Please fix! It's such a great idea!

Great Place to Start

Great way to go through Reddit in VR. Not perfect, but I'm excited to see how they keep updating it. I'd love to see new features like being able to read comments and watch videos. Right now most videos pop up as "Empty Subreddit." Head tracking and image quality is great. Can't wait to see how the app progresses.

Great app however...

The app crashes all the time which feels bad beside I upgraded the app and all it does is crash when I flip it to landscape.

Devs, please add IPD ***Update***

I was a little surprised to find that the $3 I spent was only to add subreddits. The settings only ask have anti-aliasing.

Devs, please add IPD as I cannot read crosseyed and it really hurts my eyes having no ability to put space between the side by side pictures.

I will happily change my rating from 3 to 4 with the addition of IPD. I would even go from 4 to 5 if there were gif or video support!

Devs, please use the money well! IPD is so important for VR!

IPD!!!
*********************

They added IPD very quickly so I'm glad to see that my money is going towards supportive devs. However, the update HAS broken the app on my iPhone 5. As it goes into the loading screen the app crashes. I moved it to 4 stars because the devs updated the app and listened to my request! Just please fix it :)

It's been a couple months and it seems to still not work. The tutorial in portrait mode is the only thing that works, once it's flipped to landscape the app crashes.

Wowowowowow

This app is a game changer! You can really tell that the people who made this really care for their app and its awesome. I wish my settings stayed when i exit the app, video mode should be on as a default, and i wish there was a way to view the comments maybe on the side idk. I love this app!!!!!

Surprisingly good and well made!

Very well made VR browser that has serious potential to be amazing, though the lack of functions and present issues in certain areas makes it less desirable than it deserves.

The good:

• Very very well made. I'm blown away, putting the lack of functions and issues aside. The UI is sleek, animations smooth and it overall looks like a 'premium' app - well done! I could see reddit adapting this as their "official VR app" some day, if the devs work on it a bit more.

• Allows you to browse reddit without moving anything but your head - yes please! Kicking back on my desk chair to browse reddit is surprisingly fun and attractive.

• Ability to zoom in/out to fit media to your liking is nice

• Stereoscopy is well made unlike other VR apps and provides a satisfying depth of field effect with the background

• Battery and time information! Super useful

• Free demo! This is essentially a demo but is still very usable dispart the lack of custom subs (which I obviously purchased)

The wishlist / the not-so good:

• Make sure the instruction to tilt your phone back to vertical in the beginning that lets you see the options menu is somehow made more apparent earlier on (symbol reminder in VR mode maybe?). The second it said to tilt my phone to start browsing, I did and missed the instruction. I was about to rant about the lack of custom subs! Not really obvious while in VR

• Make sure your settings menu is much much more visible!! I spent ages writing an even longer rant (yes I spent ages writing this) about missing features and it turns out a bunch of them are accessible only and solely through a hidden menu in VR mode. Horrible design... I had no idea what the 'M' button did until an hour in! I thought it was a mute button (logically) which made me think there is video support. The idea of toggling the menu is nice but please: turn the 'M' button into the international 'gear' settings symbol and make it so when activated the menu itself opens up in front or on the lower third portion of the screen, not a hidden second button beneath my eye level! Settings menu should also be in the vertical settings screen.

• The current form of interaction is functional but far from ideal. I do not have a magnetic switch nor an Apple watch and constantly having to turn my head, aim at a box and stay still for 3 seconds isn't exactly ideal and breaks the immersion.
What I feel would maybe work better is the option to tilt your head sideways to go back and forth? Or to have the options to set the buttons activation time to even shorter time (like 0.5 seconds)? Or removing the buttons completely and having to look at the right or left edges of the picture to navigate?

• A slideshow mode would be a big bonus

• Ability to reset settings (IPD especially)

• Changing the 'comfort mode' setting is horrible. Set a timer or leave the slider at the same location while in operation!

• Setting the camera feed as background is not working (no prompt to access camera). Such a shame, that would literally create a VR/AR combo - exciting!

• Ability to skim page by page, or a way to save progress. If I start on one sub, go to another and go back to the first one, I have to start over!

• Ability to use your account and view comments. I'd love to upvote/downvote, access my subscribed subs and view comments, though honestly not crucial

• Ability to view videos

• Latency could be improved, but the nature of the app doesn't make it that important

• The app is featured in the system settings menu yet is blank

I know that these are a lot of bad/suggestive comments but this does NOT make this a bad app at all. It's easier to criticise than compliment (especially as a reddit addict) and the app being free, I suggest anyone reading this to give the app a try. As it stands currently it is a very good VR reddit browser. The app has the framework beautifully built and is simply missing a few features. Adding them I'm certain will greatly improve the app and consequently its popularity. I will definitely recommend this to friends and I hope to see an update soon with some of the issues fixed! Take care.

Problem with head tracking.

I'm excited to use this app but I am having problems with selecting things with head tracking. I have to move the cursor a little bit below and to the right of buttons for the selection to work. I can't properly navigate so I haven't been using the app even though I paid for the full version. I have an iPhone 6s Plus and a Homido.

Looks promising, but crashes on rotate

I've only gotten the 3D mode to work once, after initial walk through. Now, the app crashes when I rotate from portrait to landscape, and "3D mode" fails to kick in if I start the app in landscape.

Very disappointing

Poor content

Works great with homido headset

I'm using this app with the homido headset, I paid extra for the pro version where I can add my own subs, but I wish there was a way to just simply login with my profile because adding each sub one by one was a little annoying. Love the background that takes advantage of the camera and displays my surroundings while I'm viewing pictures. At some point I would like to see gif support. Being able to zoom in and out of a picture just by tilting your head left or right is a cool feature, and turning your head left and right shows you your past picture and the picture that's coming up,but viewing pictures one by one takes a lot of time, I wish there was an option that can show me all the pictures in a sub and then I pick and choose the ones I want to see independently. Over all very good app.

Neat app, but needs work

First of all, I have no idea who came up with this VR reddit idea. It seems so dumb, but I actually find it fun. The app could use some work, however. I'd like to be able to log into my account, for instance. Also, with some images that are extremely long vertically (like comics), the bottom menu obscures parts of it. In addition, I am NOT going to pay $2.99 just to add my own subreddits. Give me more benefits for pro if you want my money.

TL;DR: Neat app, needs some interface fixes and more content overall.

Good Concept

I like the app. I would like a better perspective on the images. Maybe zoomed out to see the entire image and the. Zoom capabilities with Apple Watch?

Kinda misses the point of VR

This takes a bunch of flat, still pictures from Reddit and puts them over a spacey background so you can see them floating in front of your eyes with a VR headset, but since the pictures are flat and not 360°, what's the point?

Awesome Needs Gifs :(

AWESOME way of viewing Reddit however, this app would be so much better if it could support Gifs and videos. Other then that, this app is smooth and well made!

Still no fix?

Still not working for iPhone 5/6 with Google cardboard.

Cool VR app
