News Maid

News Maid is an iPhone app where a maid explains the background of today's news in short, friendly letters. Every letter is an original explainer written for this app. See what happened and why it matters, in a few minutes. READ - Explainers that break down the hard words - Links to the reporting and announcements each letter is based on - Save letters for later; letters you have read get a "Read" stamp - Search letters by title, introduction, or tag - Keep reading with "Next letter" at the end of each letter LISTEN AND GLANCE - Read aloud: the maid reads letters to you in the iPhone's voice. It keeps going with the screen off, at the speed you choose - Widgets: see how many letters arrived today and the newest letter on your Home Screen and Lock Screen KEEP IT UP - Records: your streak of reading days, the past week, and the letters you have read and heard. Keep going to earn the maid's reward stamps and titles - Follow topics: letters on the topics you choose come first, and you can filter by topic - Get a reminder about new letters at a time you choose, naming your followed topics first if you like (on or off in Settings) MORE - Ask the maid about a letter with AI (iOS 27 or later on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence). Answers are based on that letter - Use the app in nine languages. Letters are written in Japanese; on iOS 18 or later, one tap shows them in your language with machine translation (Apple's Translation, on your device) - Share letters you like with friends by message or social media; they can read them on the News Maid website (in Japanese) PRICE Free to read, with ads. A one-time In-App Purchase, "Remove Ads", turns the ads off for good. PLEASE NOTE Letters are for information. For important decisions, also check the references and official announcements. An internet connection is needed to get letters. Saved letters, read status, and your records stay on this device.
