The leaf area index reflects the quantitative change of plant leaf surface, that is, the ratio of plant surface area to land surface area. It can quantitatively describe the changes of leaf growth and leaf density at the population level and serve as a parameter for population growth analysis. In addition, the area index has a certain relationship with crop yield. Generally, the larger the LAI, the higher the yield. Therefore, calculating LAI is an indispensable step in agricultural production.
