Great game just very pay to win also way to easy on hardest difficulty.
Good but very flawed
This game is a fun casual arcade-like game with pretty good mechanics but a few very big flaws that make it very frustrating. Of course it has loot crates but upon earning a crate via winning a game, it enters a queue (max 4 crates) and then there’s a countdown timer before they’re openable (4hrs for silver 8 for gold). You can bypass this by spending one type of in game currency but obviously this is obviously a push to get you to spend actual cash.
Fair enough, but this is pretty egregious. Not to mention that the crates almost never produce any of the player cards you need to upgrade your team after you reach a mid-tier level. Top-tier player cards require a combination of cash and grinding and the game devolves into a slog where you can’t even just fire up a game and enjoy without constantly feeding it.
Free to play games all need these strategies to stay alive and I’m willing to drop a few bucks here and there, but Rivals is pretty terrible in how incredibly unlikely you’ll get a decent star player and how it’s impossible to enjoy if you don’t want to constantly feed the slot machine. I fear that this game will eventually have a huge player exodus if they don’t ease up on the cash grab aspects.
