About
Learn to read music – at a real piano.
Notavio shows you a note, you play it on your piano, and the app listens to check whether it was the right one. Through the microphone or directly over MIDI. That way you practice what reading music is really about: seeing the note and finding the key right away.
SEVEN STAGES, 25 EXERCISES
Treble clef, bass clef, grand staff, key signatures, timed tasks, note sequences and chords. Every exercise has a fixed number of tasks. Get at least 80 percent right the first time to unlock the next one – or, if you can already read music, unlock them all at once in Settings.
LISTENS THROUGH THE MICROPHONE
For upright pianos, grand pianos and any digital piano with speakers. A short setup measures once how loud the room is, how loud your instrument comes through and how it is tuned. Detection also checks the overtones, so a note that is still ringing doesn't count as a wrong hit.
OR DIRECTLY OVER MIDI
If your digital piano has a USB port or Bluetooth MIDI, Notavio listens straight to the keys: no setup, perfectly precise, even with headphones. Chords are then detected reliably.
ENGRAVED LIKE PRINTED MUSIC
Real music notation with ledger lines, key signatures and accidentals following the rules of music engraving – on the treble, bass and grand staff, in all 15 major keys. The staff stays calm when the next task appears.
SEE WHERE YOU WENT WRONG
If you miss, the note you played appears faintly next to the one you were looking for. The right note in the wrong octave gets its own message, and for chords the app names the wrong note. You also feel right and wrong as a short vibration.
STARS AND BEST SCORES
After every exercise you see how many notes you got right the first time, how fast you were and which notes deserve a second look.
TEST MODE
Play any notes and see what the app heard, written as notes – with frequency and deviation in cents.
C4 OR C′
International note names or German ones, and as a reading aid the names can appear below the notes. The app is available in English and German.
ON IPHONE AND IPAD
One app for both devices, in every orientation.
NOTHING ELSE ATTACHED
No account, no sign-in, no ads, no tracking. The microphone is only analyzed on the device while you practice – nothing is recorded. Your results and settings stay on your device.
