Good but with longstanding issues
Sound sets are nice, especially the strings. Have used this app for around 6 years and it covers a lot of bases for a mobile app. Intuitive for a composing app. There is however a large stability issue and I cannot recommend the app while it exists:
Adding new measures in the middle of a score will sometimes break the playback. The added measures do not show up in the score. The playback cursor gets all glitchy in the spaces where those new measures would be, sometimes moving way too slow and other times teleporting. The music still sounds normal when this happens, but it accounts for the “added” measures, causing a huge pause in the middle of the piece that you can’t do anything about. It is like a certain amount of space in the score just gets corrupted. You cannot undo this once it happens, and I have had to manually copy and paste everything into a new document if I wish to keep editing the music or listen to the playback. This is extremely frustrating, especially when it happens with larger projects. A huge timewaste that gets in the way of productivity. The chance of it happening seems random but often enough that it does not feel stable. 4 times within the last month or so, and I have had this issue for at least a few years.
Also copy and paste doesn’t always work, which can compound with the above issue.

入力の手間
何年も使ってるけど、そろそろコピペ出来なくなるバグを修正してほしい。他に使いやすいものが無いからまだ使ってるだけ。自分で段組を決めれないとか、音符の感覚のバランスが悪いとか、色々すとれすのかかる点は目を瞑るけど、急にコピペができなくなるのは作業が完全に止まるからほんと修正してほしい。

Are you handwriting notes for the first note to be disappearing? Please specify. For previous files tap the Folder icon to open the Apple file selector. You should then be able to open and save your scores. コピーしてもクリップボードに保存されていない(ペーストできない)ことが多々あるので早く修正されてほしいです。それ以外はおおむね利用できています。

**Bug** write a Boxed Text in Jazz Notation Font on iOS and it changes automatically to standard notation font …need a Fix to 5 stars.
Edit: I just noticed that it also changes the font in all of my previously created scores, which used to display correctly.

Wird immer schlimmer
Ein Update? Juhuuuuu! Oh… es ist schlimmer als vorher. Benutze es seit Jahren. Ist inzwischen eine Hassliebe geworden. Ein super Programm mit leider unglaublich vielen Bugs. Nach dem letzten Update ist es nicht besser geworden. An die alten Bugs hatte ich mich zumindest gewöhnt und konnte inzwischen mit ihnen umgehen. Jetzt muss ich mich mit neuen herumquälen…
Copy and Paste zerschießt die umliegenden Takte. Warum?
Beim Exportieren sind die Beschriftungen nicht mehr lesbar. Ich muss raten wohin ich exportiere. Wollt ihr mehr Anregungen für das nächste Update?

AVOID if you’re a musician
Ridiculous limitations on samples they SELL you with archaic demands for credit on commercial recordings. Unacceptable - feel free to refund me or bring your EULA into 2026
Sudden Glitch as of Tuesday August 4, 2026 around noon
This app suddenly doesn't export PDFs properly anymore. Many of the notes are "frameshifted" in that they're not quite on the line or not quite in between the lines. This results in zillions of wrong notes on playback when I upload a PDF from Notion to my Playscore2 app. I've uploaded the PDFs to Forscore and Genius Scan and to iPhone/iPad Files and still this problem of "frameshifted" notes persists. Fender Notion, I'm a dedicated client of this app of many years and I am asking you to repair this MAJOR glitch. Otherwise I will reluctantly search out other apps and give up on you forever.

I didn’t expect this app to get any worse
I wasn’t expecting much from a mobile notation software, so I will take some of the blame for entrusting too much to this app. But oh my goodness, they have a limit on registering your account… don’t buy the bundle they have advertised because it really doesn’t do much, the pen tool is very inaccurate and a headache to work with. You spend $16 on a pack with mediocre sound libraries (again don’t expect much from a mobile app) and you only get like 3 times of signing back into your account before they tell you the limit is exceeded. Joke of a company and joke of a piano app. This makes Flat look good.

Nice gemacht, doch nicht alles was ich z.B. über meinen Noten schreibe, hört man nicht, wenn man es abspielen lässt und wenn man ein paar Stimmen kostenlos gibt, kann man auch gleich alles machen, denn das wirklich doof, aber ansonsten eine prima App.
Erix-Guitar übertreibt ein bisschen, denn ich habe Notion jetzt schon lang und es ist gut.

Best Music Notation App
I did pay for the notation pencil add on and while you don’t need it, it works well. I bought other notation apps for the others and they just sit unused. Also if you own Fender Studio Pro (Studio One Pro) the extra music pack is free. Finally Fender Notation is updated, some of the others do not.

Excellent, including superb handwriting recognition!
I’ve been a big fan of Notion for years, and recently I got an iPad and discovered the handwriting feature - I’m so impressed! The recognition of my notation is fast and precise. As a pro singer and composer I often need to transcribe and notate music quickly, and this app feels incredibly natural and intuitive… I can tell already it’s going to save me a huge amount of time. It feels much closer to writing on paper, but with all the advantages of notation software!

File disappeared
Used the App from time to time when traveling. Not very often at all. Now I worked three days on a sheet. Saved it every two minutes and when I was done it suddenly disapeared. All the work lost. Can‘t find it in the App nor in files or the trash bin outside the App

Pros and cons of Notion
There are benefits to the program like it is easy to navigate, it is IPad friendly, and has good sound quality. The things that should be improved is that instruments should be of a wider variety, for example; I wish there was percussion staffs that are 5 lines without it being drum set, and that percussion notation is wrong like Flam should not be written as a word in the staff, it is like writing fingerings instead of accidentals. There are other things that I could harp about but I just think the producers should check some of their tools and compare them to other popular programs like MuseScore and Dorico and see what they should change. Other than that, I don’t plan to stop using this program.
