About
Numkoi is mini BI for iPhone and iPad. BI is short for business intelligence, which in plain words means keeping your numbers in one place and seeing what they say: your own numbers, live data pulled from the web, formulas that follow every change, and dashboards that show it all at a glance.
It is also a calculator, so you do not retype anything. It has plus, minus, times, divide, brackets, percent, powers and square roots.
Variables are numbers, text or lists with a name, like Day rate or Fuel cost. Change a variable once and every formula that uses it follows.
Formulas are saved calculations. Tap variables and other formulas into the calculation to build one. A formula can use other formulas.
A variable can also pull its value from a web address you set up: give it the address, say which part of the answer to take, and tap Refresh. Numkoi asks only that address, with the headers you entered, and keeps any key in your device's Keychain. Nothing goes to the developer.
Mark a variable "Ask for this each time" and a formula that uses it asks for it when you run it, for example hours worked today. When you save the result, the number you gave becomes that variable's value everywhere it is used.
Save result stores the answer with its date and time and an optional label you can change later (a label is different for each result of a formula). Saved results collect in History, and other formulas can add them up or use one particular result by its label.
The Dashboard keeps what you look at most in cards: a note, a variable or a formula's answer (or any saved result of it) under a header, or a chart of a formula's saved results over the last day, week, month or any dates you pick. Cards update as your variables and results change. Split the Dashboard into pages (2 in the free version, up to 8 with Numkoi Pro, each with up to 48 cards) to keep different sets of cards apart, and swipe between them.
Dashboard cards can sit on your Home Screen and Lock Screen as widgets, in small, medium and large sizes, and update when your numbers change.
Shortcuts and Siri can run a formula for you: add the Run Formula action, pick a formula, and it asks for the numbers it needs and gives back the answer, saving it to History if you like. The Set Variable action changes one of your variables from a Shortcut, so anything Shortcuts can reach (a sensor reading, a file, a form) can update a number that your formulas, cards and widgets use.
Share a variable, a formula, a Dashboard card, a page or a theme as one small file, and open a file someone sent you to add it with a preview that says what will be added. Back up everything to a file and restore it later. The Gallery in Settings has ready-made formulas, Dashboard pages and themes to start from.
Numkoi is free to use. An optional one-time purchase, Numkoi Pro, lifts the free limits on Dashboard pages, Dashboard cards and variables that pull from a web address. It is not a subscription, nothing you have is ever removed or locked, and Restore Purchases brings it back on a new phone.
Other details:
- A strip above the keypad lists your variables and formulas. Tap one to add it, or tap a chip in the expression to see its value.
- The result updates as you type.
- Errors say what failed and what to do, such as dividing by 0 or a deleted variable.
- Before you delete something, Numkoi lists the formulas that use it. Formulas that would use each other are blocked.
- Recently deleted keeps variables and formulas for 30 days so you can restore them.
Your data stays on your device. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and the app works offline. The only requests it ever makes are to a web address you set up for a variable and, when you open the Gallery of examples, to the Gallery for its public list. Nothing about you is sent, and nothing is sent to the developer.
