Scammy premium pricing
The subscription had an in-app “on sale” price of $6.99 per month. When it went through authorisation it changed to $24.99. I can see from my subscriptions that it appears to have an ongoing price of $24.99. In-app sale price was a lie. Now I am trying to cancel from the app and it will not allow any option other than to continue at $5.99. Very scammy. Also I didn’t realise the premium content would be weird right-wing stuff, I expected unbiased reporting. It’s truly bizarre.

New is NOT better
After months of trial and waiting I have concluded that the Navigation and readability of articles on this App are so laced with advertising, videos & photos irrelevant to the article, unclear limits on articles and advertisements, that I am abandoning using it in favour of other superior news sources that are far easier to navigate and read. FAIL .
Happy to pay for well written news articles without all the fuzz.

New App Sucks
The App wasn’t great but the update has completely stuffed the layout and navigation of the site! And are you subjected to ads even if you pay for the subscription. All in all poor quality App, poor quality journalism and I am fed up of being conned into paying for Viva and other content that should already be included. I am about to move overseas so I will be glad to get rid of this subscription.

Just went to read my morning Hearld on my iPad..it said to update.. so I tied…said no longer supported!!!! My iPad is not that old…please give me the option to load an older version so I can read my Hearld..thank you

2026 App update big fail
Really bad update. Reading the morning news is no longer enjoyable with this inadequate version - not worth the money.

I used to enjoy your App but the most recent updates leave readers frustrated about the features that used to be there. Please bring back article to article swiping, good organisation of pieces. As a premium subscriber I’d like just those basics!

Update needs modification
On the previous version any picture could be viewed and expanded with your two fingers on the screen as is normal with all smartphones.
This ability has gone, can you please change the settings for photos.
Also there is way too much negativity in the stories lately. Rapes, murders, etc. Bad enough in NZ stories but a lot of the headlines are world stories, put some more feel good, human achievements etc.

A backwards step
Version 8 of the App gives it a feel more like social media than news. Almost endless scrolling & advertising. If all articles had dates they were published then we would be able to work out what’s new & what’s not. I won’t be renewing my Premium subscription without improvements.

Please reduce the same repetitive adverts in the same article. Ever since your recent major app update. Articles are almost impossible to read on an iPad.

Shambles
This new update is a dog! Articles are cut into small sections intersected by more and more advertisements. There is no clarity on any of the ‘headline’ pages and again the whole app is dominated by advertising. NZ Herald is difficult to follow and this upgrade looks as if some erk spilled coffee on a piece of paper and thought it looked like a good app format.

Why has this gone backwards?
I’m puzzled by the new app, as in many respects it’s inferior to the old. It doesn’t refresh automatically anymore, the ability to swipe between articles is gone, and I’m getting lots of ads in my premium subscription. The previous app was far superior to Stuff’s news app; the new app is not.
Getting worse
This used to be an OK app but now it :
- crashes frequently
- makes you sit through long adds before you can watch a video and then takes you to a different video then the one promoted
- does not allow you to zoom the text???

New update
The new update is terrible. Very difficult to navigate between topics, much preferred the topics at the top and being able to scroll through them.
