FAQ

What does the OCEARCH Shark Tracker app do?

The app allows users to track the real-time movements of sharks, turtles, and other marine animals using satellite data. It provides interactive maps, animal profiles with fascinating facts, and information on migration patterns. The app aims to engage users in ocean conservation efforts by making scientific research accessible.

What are the key features of the OCEARCH Shark Tracker app?

Key features include live tracking of animals on interactive maps, exploration of migration and movement patterns, access to animal tagging and species details, daily ocean facts, and a 'follow' option to never miss updates. A premium subscription offers additional features like live weather maps and exclusive content.

How much does the OCEARCH Shark Tracker app cost?

The app is free to download and use, offering core tracking features. Users can choose to upgrade to Shark Tracker+ via a subscription for less than the cost of a cup of coffee each month, which supports the OCEARCH mission and unlocks premium features.

What kind of marine animals can I track with this app?

The app primarily focuses on tracking sharks, but also includes turtles and other amazing marine animals. The tracking data is provided by OCEARCH's research efforts, which utilize SPOT tags on these animals to send signals when they surface.

How does the tracking technology work?

OCEARCH uses SPOT tags attached to marine animals. When an animal's tag breaks the surface of the water, it signals a satellite, creating a 'ping' on the tracker that is visible in the app. This data is used by the scientific community for research, conservation, policy, management, safety, and education.
