Hanging on for legacy support
I am desperately trying to avoid updating this app from the original version. I love the simplicity of the comparison page and I can just compare two tariffs that I’m interested in. I can honestly say I don’t want the app to be anything different from what it looks at the moment, for me that is , because I am on the legacy product and haven’t updated yet. I won’t update now if I can help it unless I do it by mistake until the legacy version is back and fully supported. Looking forward to that day.
Unusable app!
Update: log in issues seem to have been fixed.
BUT my tracker tariff has now completely disappeared!? (Sep 25) its now showing that April 25 is the most recent which is obviously incorrect.
Please fix asap as i cannot see my rates!
Response from developer
Thank you for the feedback, we're genuinely sorry to hear you're considering not renewing. The sign-out issue has been addressed through a backend upgrade and should now be resolved. The tariff defaulting to a 2024 version and the greyed-out selector bug are really useful specifics — thank you. These are being investigated as a priority and we want to get them fixed as quickly as possible. Regarding preferring the original experience, a full V1 Legacy mode is coming in an upcoming release. Edit: The tracker issue was resolved on the 05/04 and should be showing and updating automatically each day now.
Big Changes
Lots of features and mostly for free rather than a lot being hidden away behind a subscription.
I might subscribe in the future but it has a very annoying problem that it is constantly signing my account out. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon and I will use the app even more.
Response from developer
Thank you so much for the kind words and for taking the time to leave a review We completely agree that great features shouldn't all be locked behind a paywall, and we're committed to keeping the core app as useful as possible for everyone. Some features do require backend infrastructure which of course has a cost associated with it hence the small subscription cost. The sign-out issue you've mentioned should have been resolved via an over-the-air update — so hopefully you're no longer experiencing it. If it is still happening, please do raise a ticket through the app (?) at the top right of dashboard and we'll investigate further. Hope you enjoy the app, and thanks again for the support — it means a lot.
Disappointing update
Response from developer
We are sorry that you’re disappointed, but please note we are listening to every piece of feedback and working hard to deliver the best of both worlds. We have just pushed another release which should be available in the next couple of days and which will hopefully address a number of the concerns you’ve raised.
Version 2.0 buggy
I miss the simplicity of the version 1 app, to be honest.
Response from developer
We have implemented a legacy view mode for comparison to enable the old view. you can turn this on within settings > customisation. If you can open a ticket within the app regarding fetching your data we can take a look at this for you.
Great thanks
Probably the best Octopus App
Simple, great and effective
Essential tool for Agile customers
Useful app
Well worth the subscription
Useful Octopus Tariff Comparison App
Great app a few ropey holes
However the errors when there isn’t the daily data (yet) are unfriendly to say the least, and disappointingly, consumption shifting hasn’t worked for ages so I’ve not been able to compare apples to apples on more dynamic tariffs.
The limit of only showing consumption within a tariff window since the tariff went live is a bit disappointing. Would be good to map consumption if not price further back.
Brilliant App!
Super helpful
I changed our household power usage for a month and then with the app’s data in hand was able to make the switch with confidence. It will also be useful on an on going basis to confirm that we’re still best off on the time of use tariff vs the flat rate or another variable one. Thanks!
Love this app
I don’t use the octopus app now.
It might even make sense a similar app for gas as well to allow people to estimate what fixing on different rates would do to their bill.
Response from developer
Thank you for your feedback. Gas tracking is certainly on the roadmap
Love This App!
Can’t believe some of these reviews. It’s 49p/month ffs. Not exactly breaking the bank. If you don’t want to pay for it, fine don’t pay, but don’t criticise someone for needing to cover their costs.
Response from developer
Thank you for your review and feedback! This is definitely something we’ll look into for a future release. Thank you for supporting Octopus Compare 🐙
Feature removed
Best advice would of been to produce new features to charge for and leave the app as it was on the free version. Very strange business move but best of luck with the app development.
Update - had a passive aggressive developer response annoyed over the 1 star review when I stated it was a decent app. He/she explaining that they had to pay for some back end features and that I quote “The basic version provides you all the same features that were available before” unfortunately the developer is wrong as you now only get 7 days history on the basic version where before you could see the whole month or even a year..... not the developer response I would expect and I still stand by my rating.
It’s like ordering 2 sausages for breakfast and just as you finish one and about to start the second the restaurant owner says “if you want to eat the second one you need to pay me but I will give you an egg too”.
As before I continue to wish you the best of luck with the app and hope you take the feedback onboard and don’t dismiss it like you have mine.
