It is appalling that someone got paid actual money to make this crime scene

This app MUST be rage bait. Or maybe it is performance art intended to make us reflect on the toxic reliance we all have with our phones. Maybe it is Comic-Con’s violent attempt to get us outside to touch some grass. It is a 1900s era Internet fever dream of a dystopian future. What it is not is a functional app.

“Why employ designers to make an app? Insanity. What do they know??”

This is what I imagine a bunch of executives cackled when the creation of this app was first discussed. They likely fist-bumped each other after hiring a blind monkey to build the app. After all, minus the banana money needed to keep the ape focused on banging its fists against the keyboard, it was more cash for their pockets.

“But won’t the con attendees notice that nothing makes sense?” piped up Sally from customer relations.

Sally was promptly fired.

worst app

Not a very intuitive app, trying to navigate is a bad maze of errors!

How is the interface STILL this awful.

First off: yes, this app “functions” in that you can view the programming, search for things, create your own schedule, etc. But I’m sorry, in the year of our freaking lord 2026 you do not get credit for the absolute bare minimum!

I haven’t even spent five minutes in the updated app and I’m asking/yelling things like:
-which designer from 2011 did you time-warp in to continue pushing a semi-transparent schedule over a busy image?
-when I hit search, the search tips overlap the status bar of my phone. How are you not designing for a STATUS BAR? A feature of every mobile OS since…forever?!
-how many users correctly identify that the teeny tiny grid icon is showing a PATH (something I only identified after I zoomed in on a screenshot)? What’s wrong with familiar and recognizable iconography? What did the instantly-recognizable map pin icon do to you?

And the real question: how can a large and active creative organization, non-profit or not, justify this refusal to spend resources on an essential tool for con-goers?

Listen, Comic-Con. “Having an app” was all you needed 15 years ago. Today? Anything less than a polished, usable experience is inexcusable. And yet. Your navigation sucks. Your use of icons sucks. Your visual design sucks, and creates its own usability issues. Your filters are next to useless. Pay me and I’ll share a lot more gripes, but the good news is all of this is incredibly easy to fix because you’re not doing anything wild or novel. We have solved these problems.

Because right now? No designer I know at any experience level would hand this off to a dev. No day-one student in a UX program would think this is even adequate.

I help pay for your org to exist. Please spend some of that money to release a usable app designed in this decade.

Oof

Man this looks like an iPhone app from 15 years ago. The interface is ugly and unintuitive, and the fix for that is to put weird tutorials up for every button you press. Why is the clipboard icon the rating for an event and the star the save button? I’m scrolling through the list of events and every time I stop a filter button sneaks up from the bottom. Why? There’s a ton of empty space at the top. So weird, not what I would expect from such a big event.

Tragically Bad

No reason this app should be so bad. Forgets things you save. Unusably slow. Navigation doesn’t take you back to where you were. No sorting by rooms. Maps don’t link to programming.

App works great if you stop trying to “login” before it’s ready to use!

This app works great for its function, which is to help you at comic con. It contains the entire programming schedule that you can view by day/times, or you can change it to view by rooms (click that little calendar icon an top rhs when you go into “Programming”.) You can star the panels you want, it will put them in a little calendar “My Schedule”. It has an exhibit hall map where you can highlight the booths you want to be able to find, and you can click after you visit to change the color so you know you’ve visited.

Many complaints about this app are because people try to use it before it’s ready to go. It looks you need to login, and many people try to do this, get frustrated and give up. It’s not ready to use until AFTER the entire schedule has been released, less than two weeks before con. There’s nothing to go on it until the floor map is ready, the panels are set, etc. Once it’s ready to go, the “login” part will disappear and it will be usable (might need to update), so stop trying to do that, then deciding it doesn’t work because you can’t. It does work, just wait for it to be ready.

Hope this helps.

Nice idea, horrible implementation

Navigation can’t tell if it’s browsing the web or the app, and will often get you lost until you can get to the top level where you pick your event from a list of several. Want to share a schedule with friends? Just log into this other system, but wait, you don’t have an account? Too bad, can’t register from here. And if you figure out where and how to register on the web, the app doesn’t recognize it. Maybe try again later.

I fail to see any benefit of this app over a printed brochure.

Still showing last year’s info

I cannot get it to up later to 2025. App is still stuck on 2024….

Complete garbage

You can’t login to SCHED from this app with any username and password

Not useful

Mobile site is better. Worse it pushes you to use another app to be able to ac eas events.

Doesn't. Friday 7/25/2024

The app does not work. Comic Con needs new IT team, gives us QR codes that don't work and this app doesn't work for 2024 show. Just sad and aggravating. Better off sticking with paper guide and updates posted on X (Twitter)

Awful

This app is terrible

2 THUMBS DOWN!

Doesn’t allow me to login. After opening app for the 1st time, it has a bug that won’t allow me to access the main page. I have to erase app and re-download; but even that is not a fix, since it happens again. For the amount of $ ppl are spending on tickets for SDCC, this app is really a BUST! Very frustrating since I can plan my activities via the app! Do better SDCC!!

Not sinking with Sched

This app would work well if it would be able to sync with my Sched app...

Still 2023!

The iOS app I just downloaded opens the program for 2023. So much for being all new for 2024!

Background Graphics and Accessablity

Needs option to disable background graphics and enable high contrast to aid readability.

Won’t even let you sign in

Can’t see the schedule unless you sign in and it won’t allow you to do that. Useless

White blank screen

When it works it’s not a bad app! Sadly I keep getting a blank white screen and con only see the app controls at the bottom but when I click nothing happens. So much for seeing the schedule I curated for the week! 😕

Worst app I’ve ever used. Must be incompatible with modern iPhones.

Absolutely and utterly broken. The buttons on the bottom of the screen are obscured by the iPhone UI that let’s you slide up, if you switch to sideways mode it will always obscure two of the buttons. They’re half the size that they should be with the icons extending beyond it. The home screen is a white screen with white text on it making it completely illegible. Completely unacceptable, it has literally gotten worse over the years. Might have to uninstall and reinstall the app and hope that fixes the issue.

Can’t log in

Too bad the app doesn’t work because you can’t log in. Typical SDCC app that never works before the show.
