Ripe off

I love the idea of the app but not the fact you have to pay monthly subscription fee just to do anything with the app. The point of buying it is to avoid subscription fee.

Response from developer

We hear you. Ollie is one of the only apps to offer core functionality for a one-time $9.99 purchase with no monthly fee. That includes the essential communication features needed to use the app without an additional subscription. Optional Basic and Pro subscriptions are only for extra services that have ongoing costs for us to provide. If you’re interested, we’d be happy to provide some time with one of those subscriptions on us. Please shoot us an email at support@underdoginnovationinc.com and we'll take care of it. Thank you for giving Ollie a try. We’d appreciate the opportunity to make this right and support you as best we can.

Affordable but delayed

Overall, this is a great AAC app and I really like the layout and functionality. My biggest issue is that buttons do not automatically speak when tapped. Instead, the user has to either manually press the play button afterwards or press and hold the selected button for about 0.1 seconds for it to speak. For some ACC users, that extra motor step can be a significant barrier. The client I use this app with does not currently have the skill to consistently press and hold a button, so they are unable to independently produce spoken output through the app despite being able to select what they want to communicate. I would love to see an option that allows selections to speak immediately with a normal tap. That would make the app much more accessible for users with varying motor abilities.

Response from developer

Thank you for this thoughtful feedback and for highlighting such an important accessibility barrier. We’ve added a new option that allows every button to perform its full action—including speaking—with a normal tap. It is enabled by default, while press-and-hold remains available as an alternative. This improvement will be included in our next update, Version 1.3, currently in App Store Review.
