What's New in OnBuoy

2.0.2

July 18, 2026

v2.0.2: Bug fixes and improvements to get you to your moorage more quickly. Fair winds and following seas. v2: Public Buoy Check In has arrived — and it changes everything about finding a spot. Ever motored into a busy harbor with no idea if a single buoy was free? With community help, as we grow, those days can be behind us. OnBuoy now shows you, right on the map, which public mooring buoys are taken. Grabbed a buoy? Check in to mark it occupied so fellow boaters know it's spoken for. Heading out? Check out to free it up for the next crew. It's real-time, community-powered visibility for the water. What's new: • See what's open at a glance — taken buoys show up right on the map • Check In to announce your spot — for a few hours, tonight, or the weekend • Spot another boat on a mooring? Report it so everyone has the full picture • Check Out when you leave to open it back up or just let it time-out based on your selections at check-in Plus: New Dock vs. Buoy filters, smoother location search, a clearer booking breakdown, enhancements to the review system, and finally, bug fixes and other minor improvements.

Works great for planned and last-minute trips

I boat all over Puget Sound and have used OnBuoy for trips planned in advance and also for extending a trip on the fly when I wanted one more night out. I've used it to book private buoys as well as marina slips, and the coverage in the Puget Sound area is solid. Overall the app is pretty easy to use.

The website also does a good job of explaining the small details. That matters when you don't want surprises.
What surprised me most is how much more comfortable I feel tying to a private buoy when I know it's been inspected. That detail alone changes the "math" versus anchoring; I don’t wake up in the middle of the night wondering if my anchor is holding.

Highly recommend for any boater.

Airbnb for Buoys!

This is the app I’ve been waiting for. Airbnb for buoys, done right. Easy to use, practical when you actually need it, and built around a real sense of community. Bonus points for responsive, thoughtful customer support.

So easy!

This app does for boating what harvesthost did for camping! I am generally bad about making reservations in advance, this app lets me be more spontaneous. Plus, it’s more reliable and better for the environment than dropping anchor. Thanks OnBuoy!

Opening new cruising paths

I’m excited for the upcoming cruising season. Owners of private buoys opening up to boaters creates a whole bunch of new overnight options and will spread the crowds around from the usual spots. This is great for the environment and for boaters. I love that all the public buoys are here for reference as well as pump outs. Kudos.
