What's New in Once

1.1.2

September 4, 2026

We love math, but as a reading product we felt like our grown-up age gate should be more on theme. We now ask users about tricky rhyming words rather than addition problems to prove that they can do grown-up things.

Amazing!

I’ve been searching for a way to teach my five year old to read, side by side. I’m not an educator, but I also don’t want to just give my child a device and have them off in a corner on a screen. I want to spend time together and help her love reading, and this is the way. What a beautiful product! Can’t recommend highly enough. The company is also very supportive if you have questions.

Teaching my 4yo to read - already at 1st grade level!

I started doing Once w/my 4yo earlier this year and she’s already reading at a 1st grade level.

It’s really well designed and her progress has been amazing. It does require an adult to read prompts and hit “not quite” if the child needs to work on a sound or word again, but anyone can do it.

Highly recommend!

Amazing progress, and fun

My son and I do our “reading games” every morning before preschool, and his progress has been amazing - at 4 years old he’s now reading at a first grade level. Unlike other products Once helps you actually *teach* your child to read, rather than just playing games together related to reading.

I also appreciate that we do it together - it’s been fun to have this one on one kid/dad time together, and I can tell that he’s invested in large part because I am invested. He’s learning more, and we’re both enjoying it more, because we do Once together rather than it being something he sits in a corner doing on his own.
