86 sky flags bearing a personal message
Under the patronage of Oleksandra Matviychuk, Nobel Peace Prize laureate from Ukraine
An art project by Yvonne Lee Schultz
From 1 to 22 September 2026, the sky flags of ONE SKY FLAGS will fly between the Zytglogge and the Nydegg Bridge, right in the heart of Bern’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. People from 86 countries have sent in a photo of their sky and shared their thoughts on peace and freedom. These images have been transformed into the flags now flying in Kramgasse and Gerechtigkeitsgasse.
Each flag has a personal story behind it, which can be listened to via an app on your mobile phone. In September, the stages of the city of Bern will offer a varied programme of accompanying events, ranging from panel discussions to theatre sports. ONE SKY FLAGS is being organised in collaboration with the association Bühnen der Hauptstadt (VBdH). A powerful statement in fragile times.
