About
openat — drand Time Capsule
Lock your messages, files, and memories in time — and let them open themselves exactly when you decide.
openat uses drand, a decentralized randomness network, to perform time-lock encryption (tlock). Your content is sealed with a cryptographic key tied to a future drand round. When that moment arrives, the network publishes the corresponding signature, and your capsule unlocks automatically — no server, no third party, no waiting on anyone.
What you can seal: • Text messages and notes • Photos and images • Videos • Audio recordings • PDF documents • Any file
How it works:
Write your message or pick a file
Set the unlock time
Optionally add a password for an extra layer of protection
Seal it — openat encrypts it with tlock
When the time comes, openat fetches the drand signature and decrypts your capsule automatically
Privacy first: All capsule data is stored locally on your device in encrypted form. No plaintext is ever saved to disk or transmitted to any server. Only you hold your capsules.
Use cases: • Send a future message to yourself • Protect sensitive files until a future date • Create a personal time vault • Lock Bitcoin keys or seed phrases until a planned date • Build anticipation — surprise yourself
