Great

Been using it for a couple years now. Simple, does what we need. No fluff. Awesome. Thank you.

Has potential

Subscribed and tried for one month. I’m looking for a cheaper alternative to GoodBudget and similar apps for an “envelope system”. I don’t need to sync actual bank accounts just need something to categorize and track my finances.

This could be it, easy to use and has the main concepts in place. but not developed enough.

Editing transactions: can’t change category or date.

Report generating: didn’t work for me; and I need all transactions to list.

Customer support didn’t respond to email.

Just not confident this app is stable enough.

But hope it gets more attention from the developer. You got this!

So far so good.

The previous reviewer was annoyed that you couldn't clear purchases for the month, but that is exactly what I was looking for. I get really annoyed at apps that start you over from the beginning when the month ends. I don't budget for 30 exact days, I budget by payperiod.

This simple app is exactly what I was looking for. Categories to pull from so I know where my money is going while also showing me what I have leftover to save. It's simple, it's clear, and it's helping me immensely.

I only took off one star because the withdrawl button my mac isn't as seamless as the iphone app. I have to click another category, and then click withdrawl again.

In the future, I'd love to have a reconcile button for transactions. But I am happy to have it as it is now, and it doesn't change the benefit for me.

Thank you!

Great Until a New Month Started

This is a great little app but I can't figure out how to reset/clear the entries after the first month. I have searched everywhere for how to clear the transactions short of going in and deleting each of them by hand. Emailed support a few days ago - no response. For the monthly subscription rate it should be far more obvious or support should get back to you asap.

Bogus app?

As far as I can tell this app only exists to grab your personal info. I could not find anyway to add transactions or effectively use the tool.

Response from developer

Hi Carolyn! We don’t grab your data at all! In fact we’ve built the app so that making an account is completely optional and we only use your email as a username. By default we don’t even store your transactions in our servers. Instead they are stored on your device in a local storage system, and if you ever want to enable cross-device syncing you can do so! Your data is never read by us, sold to third parties, or anything. You can find more about our privacy practices on our privacy policy. Our users’ privacy and personal data are our top priority in every aspect of the app. As for making transactions, you can use the deposit and withdraw buttons on the top of the home screen to start making a transaction! Then you’ll be guided through entering the transaction information, and storing it in a category. If you would like more help getting started with the app, feel free to reach out to us at support@openbudget.us

Great app for envelope system budgeting

I don’t usually write reviews but have been really enjoying using this app for the first month. I tried a lot of the budgeting apps before settling here. It’s easy to use, no ads, reasonable price and clean UX. I hope you continue to grow the app and feature set.

Great for its purpose but could be improved

This is a budgeting app that basically simplifies your spreadsheet alternative. It’s very basic. I do like that you can add each budget category to your home screen as a widget. I really don’t like that it doesn’t reset your categories. Like once you submit a deposit you have to take them out when your month/week is up. It’s a problem that I feel like can be easily fixed but it just hasn’t and it’s annoying. All in all it’s a pretty good free app. There is a premium but you don’t have to get it it’s just an option. I would still recommend this app. I would just like some things to change.

Best app EVER

My life literally would not be the same without this app. It’s so customizable and can make your budget work YOUR way. So many other budget apps confine you to their budgeting system, but open budget let’s you do what works for you. It is by far the best budgeting app I’ve ever used, and let me tell you, I’ve used them ALL. Also every update the app gets better and better. I tell everyone I know about this app and had so many friends download it and sing it’s praises. I’m beyond thankful this app exists. Just download it, you won’t regret!!!

The Best Budgeting App Out There

When the service I used for budgeting announced that they were shutting down, I started looking for a replacement. I tried every budgeting app out there, and none of them worked with the way I budget. I was ready to give up, and then I found OpenBudget.

Simply put, it’s the best budgeting app available. Believe me, I’ve tried them all. It’s the only app that offers the power, flexibility, and sharing options that I need to budget properly. The design is intuitive enough for anyone to pick it up and start taking control of their finances.

Now that I have everything set up the way I like in the app, keeping up with my money is easy and enjoyable. I thought budgeting would turn into a chore, but OpenBudget has made it anything but that.

The developer is also very responsive and kind. When I was first trying the app and deciding whether or not it was for me, I reached out with some feedback that he immediately incorporated into the app, making it even better for how I budget.

I’m proud to be an annual subscriber to OpenBudget, and I look forward to using it as my family’s primary financial tool going forward.

Useful

Useful app. Switched from clearbudget and it has a similar system, but much simpler to track transactions
