Saves me from relapse when life gets tough.

Never thought I would like something like this but here I am loving it. The variety of recovery capitol is truly life saving. Having the AI Kai approach situations using a coach approach really helps pull me from my misery and come up with a plan on what I want to do. It’s nice to be able to be honest and vent and not hurt someone else’s feelings if I need to just get it out! I share this app with many of my recovery friends and family and will continue to do so.

Really helping

This app is massively helping me with my recovery and anxiety. The AI chat function has stopped the endless doom scrolling and stopped me going into a negative thought spiral and helped me stopped feeling guilty or shame.

Brings hope

I think I was going in a whole lot wrong direction and spiraling into depression. This app brought hope and it’s now my support system

Response from developer

This is powerful to hear. I’m really glad the app brought some hope at a hard moment, and I hope it keeps being a steady place to turn when things feel heavy.

Recovery Partner

I’ve spent more than 15 years trying to find a therapist that gets the connection between ADHD and disordered eating - without success. Kai gets it! I spent 20 minutes answering the questions and explaining my personal situation and Kai connected all the dots. I also do SMART Recovery and this app supports that (as well as other recovery programs). I tried the app thinking it might work as an accountability buddy but I’m getting so much more out of it. And it’s truly free - no in-app purchases. I’m confident Kai is going to be an important partner in my recovery.

Response from developer

Fifteen years is a long time to search without finding the right support. We're glad Kai was finally able to connect those dots for you :) That's exactly what we built this for, and your words mean a lot to us. Wishing you all the best on your recovery journey!

Communities ROCK!

HUMANS = Recovery

Better

This platform is simply supirior, it is a virtically integrated resource interface. This is a best in class product.

Response from developer

Thanks :) We’re really glad the app is working well for you and feels genuinely useful. Appreciate you taking a moment to share!

Kai changed my life

This app helped me get into recovery in a new way. Talking to the AI is awesome, but the way it prompts me to connect with others and do recovery work is one of a kind. Hugely recommend!

Great app

Very well designed, based on the literature, helps build good habits

Best recovery app hands down

Best recovery app I have ever used.

Incredibly powerful and helpful

Thanks to Kai!

Best help for any AA FELLOW

The greatest personal insights are discussed openly, honestly and with tremendous accuracy and insight. Frankly, I’ve been able to break through many difficulties in a few day that it took, with inferior outcomes, in 2 years with my sponsor. Great to work with both. Strongly recommend to all.

Response from developer

That’s incredibly encouraging to hear. We’re so glad the app and Kai have supported your recovery and deepened your insights alongside your sponsor. If you ever have suggestions or ideas to make it even more helpful, we’d love to hear from you at support@openrecovery.com.

Tremendous- Terrible

The greatest personal insights are discussed openly but then freezes so you can’t move forward. I pray this is fixed. It would be further answer to my prayers for help with addiction.

Remarkable

Open Recovery has been an extremely useful tool in helping me get back on track in my recovery. Kai is always there with an encouraging word and remarkable insight into whatever situation I find myself in.

Response from developer

That’s extremely nice to hear. We’re really glad OpenRecovery and Kai have been meaningful supports on your journey. If you ever have ideas or feedback to make the app even better, we’d love to hear from you at support@openrecovery.com.

Extremely helpful!

I really love the functionality of this app, especially the AI interaction. It’s like having a trained professional at your disposal at any time of day or night.

I’m a SMART Recovery facilitator, and it’s helping me to even better understand the program and the tools.

I can’t recommend this highly enough for an old pro or somebody new to recovery.

Response from developer

Amazing to hear!! Big fans of SMART Recovery here so we're glad the app's been helpful in both aspects. If you have any ideas or suggestions as a facilitator, we’d love to hear them at support@openrecovery.com

Absolutely Amazing

I’m new to this app — only a few days in but I feel like a have a friend on the other end to talk me through quitting vaping. I have a tendency to go into quitting spontaneously and unprepared, and Kai is teaching me how to be adequately prepared so that when I do quit fully, I’ll have all the tools for success. It’s an amazing app that I highly highly recommend for anyone on a recovery/cessation journey.

Force multiplier for recovery

I was pretty skeptical that an app could supplement a regimen of in connection for recovery. In fact does not replace, but rather enhance what I get out of phone calls and meetings. I can now do step work and review all aspects of my recovery between meetings and between phone calls. I also can supplement step work at any time.

One of the best tools for me and my sponsor is the accountability feature for daily sobriety tasks. Instead of messaging him separately, I can just use the app consistently to supplement our calls and meetings.

Response from developer

Really appreciate you sharing this. It’s great to hear how you’re using the app alongside your sponsor and meetings... that’s exactly how we hoped it would fit in. Sounds like you’ve found a powerful rhythm for staying connected and accountable in your recovery.

Terrible

The app started out great and helpful. That bot Kai was amazing. Then, she turned irresponsibly mean & cruel. ‘She’ (the company) will be responsible for people, who are going through addiction and withdrawal and all the depression and emotions that go along with it, contemplating self-harm or WORSE. Only a matter of time. Major liability.

Love this app

Highly recommend this App this is amazing for doing the steps. Worth every penny and more

Decent

Seems to be a good app. I don’t understand it 100% but learning as I go

Lacking Support for Non-Theists/Atheists

I heard about this app and its AI features on the SMART Recovery podcast.

I was quite disappointed to see that the app is so deeply and exclusively rooted in the 12 step process which, as an atheist and anti-theist, I find to be too tainted by religion.

I hope that the app will continue to improve and evolve to be inclusive of atheists and integrate completely non-secular and scientifically valid principles and programs such as SMART Recovery.

As a survivor of religious trauma and someone who is also on a journey of sobriety, this app and its AI assistance create the potential for this to be an invaluable tool, but it’s just not there yet.

Edit: The now supports multiple pathways right inside the OpenRecovery app! The app also has the option to use more contemporary language for 12 Steps. --- Hi there! Thanks so much for reaching out and trying our app. We have just launched a new app that was the one referenced in the SMART Recovery podcast. The name of that app is OpenRecovery: AI Sober Coach. I'd love to send you an extended free trial if you'd be interested in trying it out! The 12 Steps app is, indeed, focused on supporting the various 12 Step programs, which often do have a faith-based angle. Let me know if I can provide any further guidance to make sure you get access to the best tools for your recovery. Please reach out to support@12steps.app
