About

Operator is the mobile companion for Matrix, the professional sports photography pipeline. Review match photos, refine AI-generated crops, tag faces, build captions, and control your cameras remotely, all from your iPhone or iPad. Designed for sports photographers and photo editors who need to process images quickly during live events, Operator puts your entire photo workflow in your pocket. REVIEW AND FILTER Browse your photo library in a responsive grid with real-time status badges. Filter by status (review, tagging, problems, done), sort by date or filename, and select specific matches. A processing banner shows how many photos are still moving through the pipeline. EDIT AND CROP View full-resolution previews with pinch-to-zoom. Long-press to enter crop editing mode with an interactive crop frame, rule-of-thirds overlay, and aspect ratio presets. Adjust rotation and confirm changes with a tap. The AI-generated crop is your starting point -- refine it to match your editorial vision. FACE RECOGNITION AND TAGGING Detected faces appear as labeled overlays on each photo. Tap any face to assign a person from your database or create a new one on the spot. Add manual persons for subjects not linked to detected faces. Jersey numbers and team assignments are supported. CAPTION BUILDER Build structured captions using an interactive chain editor: select persons, pick actions from categorized lists, and connect them with smart grammar suggestions. The caption builder generates both captions and keywords automatically. Override with manual text when needed. IPTC METADATA Edit captions and keywords directly. Manual overrides are clearly indicated so you always know what has been customized. Reset to template defaults with one tap. BATCH WORKFLOW The Edit tab presents photos one at a time with previous/next navigation. Mark each photo as done or skip it. The app automatically advances to the next photo, keeping your workflow uninterrupted. MULTI-SERVER SUPPORT Connect to multiple Matrix Operator servers. Switch between production and staging environments. Each environment is stored separately with its own credentials. OFFLINE-CAPABLE Edits are queued locally when connectivity is lost and synced automatically when the connection returns. A sync indicator shows pending changes at a glance. BUILT FOR iPad Full tablet support with a responsive two-column layout that puts the image editor and controls side by side. All orientations supported, including Split View. REMOTE CAMERA CONTROL Link mode discovers camera nodes on your local network automatically and connects to supported Sony cameras. Watch live view from every connected body in a multi-camera wall, or open the loupe for a full-screen view of a single camera with a real-time exposure readout. Adjust shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation without touching the camera. TOUCH FOCUS AND FACE TRACKING Tap anywhere in live view to focus. Long-press a detected face to lock continuous AF tracking on that subject -- the camera follows them through the action. AF Lock protects an active track from stray taps. Review captured frames in a grid or loupe, select your picks, and deliver them to one or more FTP targets directly from the camera, with per-frame delivery status that persists across sessions. SECURE BY DESIGN Credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain. All communication with your server uses HTTPS. No analytics, no tracking, no ads.

What's New in Operator

1.6.0

August 19, 2026

What's New in version 1.6.0 We're continuously working on improving Operator. This version contains new features, improvements and bug fixes. - New sharpness slider on the face bar - Sharpness is now remeasured - Your slider position is remembered per photo - Hiding a face through the filter now keeps the person on the row, and unhiding restores both the tag and the photo link - Delivery readouts on the grid, including delivered sizes per destination - Done and Skip now advance to the next photo instead of bouncing back to the grid - Filter the grid to your own images - Live crop size readout in source pixels while pinching - The face pill now shows the match percentage - Captions keep their full token set, including round, on every path - iPad portrait: the roster moves behind a Players segment and quick actions open in a drawer
