iOS 18 breaks this app
Just updated to iOS 18. The cross cylinder calculation no longer works. You cannot enter the axis number correctly for both current Rx and the cross cylinder amount.
Very useful tool
Quick and easy to use at work (I'm a student dispensing optician). Also wanted to suggest something to the developer and got a really prompt and honest reply.

Great general ophthalmic optical app. However I wish you were able to plug in any index of refraction for calculations. World these days revolves around more than just standard 1.53 shop index.

I use a this app regularly as an ophthalmologist for things like a slab off recommendation. It is easy to use and remembers your place so it is fast during the day.

I do a bunch of high end contact lens work and find a number of these calculators to be valuable. I know some of these are also free on the web but the user interface makes the purchase price well worth it.

This app is Fabulous! As an Optician I am so happy to have the Slab and Vertex calculator! Quickly validating my assessment of the fundamental issues pertaining to the Rx is extremely useful. The determination of how best to fine tune the eyewear to the patients real world of viewing is essential. Grateful to have it.

Obliquely crossed cylinder app is helpful for soft toric fits and easy to use. Formulas are included for those who are interested. Seller responds quickly to emails and is open to all suggestions. Will add a diopter to mm and reverse function for conversion of K readings in diopters to mm for RGP fitting on the next update

Useful idea but seriously incomplete
There are no contact lens formulae other than vertex distance. I expected common things like corneal radius to dioptres. Also formulae for toric soft lenses - like lens to order to compensate for on-eye rotation. Or new lens to order based on over-refraction (the Brennan method).
In spec lenses it couldcalso include formula to work put lens index based on curves and power. As I said, it does a lot well but it's just incomplete.

Great App!
I had been waiting for an application like this since I switched from my Treo which had these calculators. The interface is easy to use and provide great data for any eye care professional. Some of the calculators may be more academic than clinical, but they work well. I emailed the programmer and asked him to add an oblique cross cyl calculator for refracting over toric contact lenses and he was more happy to start working on adding it in one of the next updates. I am thrilled to have this resource and someone who is so willing to take suggestions to make it even better.
