About

In 1572 Luís de Camões published a poem about a voyage that had happened in his own lifetime: four ships leaving Lisbon for a route nobody had sailed. This is the whole of it — all 1,102 stanzas — with the Portuguese Camões wrote beside a translation in your language, and every stanza read aloud. • The complete poem in Portuguese, from the 1817 Firmin Didot edition • A literal English guide, line by line, for reading beside the original • Donner's German verse translation of 1833, and Fournier and Desaules's French prose of 1841 — both complete • Over 26 hours of narration, following the text as it plays • Seven passages presented as cinematic scenes, with the poem as their voice • A chart of the outward voyage, from Restelo to Calicut Everything is on your device. No account, no connection, nothing to sign in to. Open it on a plane and it is all still there. The narration is a synthetic voice, made for this edition.

What's New in Os Lusíadas

EN — The paintings now appear where the poem does: in the complete reading, a scene rises behind the text when you reach its stanza — Adamastor forming out of the Cape at V.39, St Elmo's fire at V.18 — and fades when you pass. Stanza numerals above XL are no longer clipped. Small fixes. Petites corrections.
