Miura defines "Outdoor Heart Sutra" as the process of leaving one’s home (referred to as shukke, or "leaving the secular world") to complete the 278 characters of the Heart Sutra by photographing matching characters found on street signs and billboards throughout the city (referred to as shakyo, or "sutra copying").
