About

OverCrest is designed for regularity and road rally competitors who need clear timing, fast setup, and dependable tools while moving. What started as a basic timer has evolved into a complete rally workflow that combines live control timing, setup and planning, arrival handling, distance management, Apple Watch support, and GPX recording and replay in one app. The aim is simple: keep critical information visible, reduce taps during an event, and make common actions fast and predictable. At the center of OverCrest is the main timing screen, built around the timer, compass, and distance meter. The timer is structured for quick reading under pressure, showing the active control name and due time, a prominent main time line, countdown/lateness behavior, and make-up guidance. As due time approaches, the display helps you monitor precisely; once due time passes, it transitions clearly to lateness tracking so you can see exactly where you stand. OTL behavior is included to make timing pressure obvious when a control goes beyond its configured limit. The Setup area has been expanded so you can build and manage complete control lists quickly. Add as many timers as needed, edit control names, set due times, configure OTL, and enter make-up allowance per control. Each control row shows key timing details for quick review before you start. Setup now supports Time Allowed entry in both minutes and seconds for finer precision. For card-based events, Adj Times lets you apply a global offset across all controls in one move, with add and subtract options. OverCrest now includes advanced progress feedback for both time and distance, giving clearer pacing visibility throughout each leg. The compass remains a simple directional aid, but now also supports workflow speed: one press opens the arrival time window for the active control, and accepting an arrival automatically records that time and advances to the next timer/control. Distance handling has also been improved. The distance meter shows live travel and supports quick corrections from the main screen. Master Trip can be pressed to enter reverse, and a three-second press-and-hold resets both trips together. Apple Watch support extends this convenience with remote control actions and synced timer context when handling the phone is less practical. To speed event preparation, OverCrest supports OCR time-card import from camera or photo library. You can scan, preview extracted controls before applying, and continue with multi-card scans when required. Imported timing can still be edited afterwards. Beyond live timing, OverCrest includes route recording, replay, and GPX export. Replay settings support flexible viewing and unit preferences, and GPX speed recording can be disabled when you want cleaner route-only logs. In-progress recording persistence and recovery improve reliability when sessions are interrupted. Rally management has also grown: create, save, load, overwrite, rename, and delete rallies, with stronger persistence and safeguards to reduce accidental edits. Overall, this release is a major step forward from the earlier basic version, covering the full rally cycle from setup and import through live timing, arrivals, distance, recording, replay, and export.

What's New in OverCrest

Version 1.0.0

April 23, 2026

This is a major update to OverCrest — rebuilt from a basic timer into a full rally timing and route workflow. • Complete rally workspace Navigate between four core screens: live timing, control arrival logging, time calculator, and Route Replay. • Smarter setup tools Build and edit full control lists with per-control Time Allowed, Make-up, OTL, and distance values. Timers can now be set in seconds as well as minutes for finer control. • Time card import (camera + photo library) Scan printed time cards using OCR, preview extracted controls before applying, and merge multiple scans with “Next time card.” Recognizes common rally labels including MTC, TC, PC, ITC, IRTC, RSTC, RFTC, and NSTC (including sub-controls). • Advanced progress visuals Enhanced progress bars now provide clearer live tracking for both time and distance. • Arrival tracking improvements New Control Arrival Times workflow with day-offset handling, quick save/clear actions, and safer early-arrival confirmation. Compass arrival gate flow now supports faster Accept/Cancel timing actions. • Route Replay + GPX export Record routes, replay them with live stats, and export GPX files (including optional control waypoints). Added replay/display settings for speed and distance units, speed-colored route option, and arrow direction behavior. • More control over GPX recording MPH/speed recording in GPX can now be disabled when you prefer cleaner route-only logging. • Stronger recording reliability In-progress GPX recordings are now persisted and can be resumed/recovered after app interruptions or relaunch. • Rally management overhaul Save, load, auto-save, rename, and delete rallies. Loaded rallies can be locked to prevent accidental edits, then unlocked when needed. • Apple Watch connectivity enhancements Better sync for active control/timer state, plus Watch-triggered actions for next/previous control, reset distance, and arrival commands. • Performance and stability Significant internal restructuring and persistence improvements for smoother setup editing and more reliable state saves.
