The best DragonBoat management tool

PaddlesUp! Coach makes coaching/managing easier as I coach more than one dragon boat team a season. I use the iPad as its just easier use and read but this app does everything. It keeps a roster of active and inactive paddlers/steers/callers by team name and easily reactivates team members. You can create line ups/seating plans of your paddlers/steers/callers with their data (name, gender, weight, preferred/stronger paddling side, contact info, etc) and front load several races ahead. As you create the lineup, you can see the left/right & front/back weight balance and quickly and easily make changes on the fly to seat assignments as needs be to get to the ideal weight balance. You can save a great line up too. You can add competitor team names, all the upcoming festivals, the individual races within festivals, lane assignments, finishes/placement and all the times. You can send out festival reminders to the team members, schedule festival early bird and regular fees dates etc. This app is indispensable to me as a coach, the team captains/managers and to the teams as a whole. Highly recommend for it features, versatility and ease of use.

Helps to balance the boat

However, it only balances the boat port and starboard. I'd like to be able to enter the sweep and drummer in the lineup/seating plan and balance the boat front and back as well.
Also great to keep track of side preferences of paddlers, and easily identifiable within the seating chart.

Response from developer

Thanks for your feedback. You can set the drummer and steers-person by tapping the (i) on the lineup. You also get live weights and front-to-back balance in the "race" lineup editor which is a premium feature tied to a festival.

Nice idea

This is a very basic set up, but works pretty well for the most part.
One problem is that if your participants are not in your contacts then you cannot easily move them between different roles. The other problem is that the app only thinks about international competitions, but actually different countries have other roles, such as Taiwan, where I am now, which has a flagcatcher role. I think also being able to give a secondary role, so that I can see who can be flagcatcher or drummer would also be a plus.

The other problem is that when organising seating positions there's plenty of space in the name bar, but it doesn't automatically show the person's weight for easier reference, you have to hit done and then a name in order to see that info.

These would be awesome updates if they could be made before the end of May.

But not a bad effort. Thanks for this guys.

For alternate roles, I think that If you are substituting a flag-catcher for a drummer, you could just repurpose that position. Perhaps not ideal, but it could work. If I misunderstand, please feel free to email us details.

Indispensable

If you are a coach or manager of a dragon boat team or several dragon boat teams your life just got easier. Developed by a paddler for coaches and managers, this app does it all: stores rosters and lineups; notifies paddlers of races and changes; stores your paddlers' vital information (gender, weights, side preferences, contact info, etc). Create race lineups on the fly, automatic weight balancing side to side and front to back makes it easy. No more spread sheets, no more scrambling for paddler information. You have it all in your hand. I coached and managed three different teams last season - this app saved my sanity. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
