About

Paige is an English dictionary for readers. Come across a new word, type it or say it, and you're back on the page in seconds. The whole dictionary is on your iPhone: from everyday to rare, with pronunciations, real quotations and word origins. No account, no ads, and no internet connection needed. FAST • Opens with the keyboard up and suggests on every keystroke, best match nearest your thumb • Understands inflections and misspellings: "ran" finds run, "geese" finds goose, "definately" finds definitely • Short entries: every definition at a glance. Tap one for its examples and related words SAY IT • Tap the mic and say "ephemeral", or ask "what does ephemeral mean?" • When a word sounds like others (there, their, they're), Paige shows them all instead of guessing • Voice Mode keeps listening while you read: ask about a word and its entry appears, hands-free • Speech is recognised on your iPhone and never leaves it REAL ENTRIES • American or British pronunciation, in IPA and read aloud • Meanings grouped by part of speech, with quotations from real writing, synonyms, opposites and origins • Rare and literary words included, from "naumachia" to "ultracrepidarian" • Where a meaning has no example, Apple Intelligence can write one on your iPhone, clearly marked (on iPhones that support it) ALWAYS AT HAND • Look Up a Word and Say a Word controls for Control Center, the Lock Screen and the Action Button • Ask Siri to "define a word in Paige", or use Spotlight and Shortcuts • Today's Word and Your Words widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen • History and saved words, so the words you meet stay with you PRIVATE BY DESIGN Paige collects no data. Your look-ups and saved words stay on your iPhone. Definitions are adapted from Wiktionary by its contributors, under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. Word frequencies from wordfreq.
