About

Papering brings the feel of a ring binder to your iPad. Make it a planner, a journal, a sketchbook, or a place for whatever you want to put on paper. Paper you can move Open the rings with the lever. Take out a sheet, change its place, or move it to another binder. Your handwriting and decorations move with it. Turn pages with your fingers and choose a one-page view or a two-page spread. Choose your inserts Pick yearly, monthly, weekly, daily, journal, and to-do inserts, or start with lined, grid, dot, or blank paper. Import a PDF as a binder or individual sheets. Use your own PDF or image as an insert design. Write, decorate, and find Write and draw with your finger or Apple Pencil. Add stickers, memo notes, photos, washi tape, and index tabs. Search your handwriting; recognition happens on your iPad. Your writing stays yours Papering does not collect the contents of your pages. Handwriting recognition runs on your iPad, and sync uses your iCloud account. Your page contents are not sent to a Papering server. No Papering account or separate sign-in is needed. Free and Pro The free Free lets you create one binder, with no limit on its sheet count. A binder in the trash still counts toward this limit. iCloud sync and PDF export are free. Pro is a one-time purchase for unlimited binders, with Family Sharing. There is no recurring subscription. Binders you have already made remain available to open and write in. Requires an iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Apple Pencil is optional. Available for iPad only.

What's New in Papering

1.13.0

October 28, 2026

There’s a new page menu. Use the page-shaped buttons beside the drawer to share a page as a photo or PDF. Quickly add an insert with the same design or a favorite insert right after the page from its menu. The pushpin has become a clip. It grips the top edge of the page, leaving your writing space clear. You can use it from the page menu in landscape. Use Tidy Handwriting and Scratch to Erase on handwriting over photos and stickers. Tidy Handwriting requires iPadOS 27 or later. Fixed the page you were writing on becoming hidden when rotating your iPad. Fixed older, unedited content on another device overwriting newer edits.

User reviews

The best notes and journaling app on iPad with Apple Pencil support!!

I have been using various notes apps on iPad for the last 2 years and none of them have been designed with this much attention.

Papering is the only app where design meets functionality. It’s full of real-life paper and binder animations, makes you feel like you are using a real page and binder and makes you write on the iPad.

Calendar connections is another big thing - it automatically and beautifully syncs with the calendar and displays the day’s plan in a nice and clean way without intruding on the writing section.

Tons of features on landscape and portrait mode. Full-screen focus mode is also very good with page flip animation making it an ideal real notebook replacement.

There is some initial learning curve but the learning guidebook does a good job explaining it. Once you understand the design and how to use the binders, it’s a magical app to use.

100% recommended as the primary daily driver for all notes and journaling needs for iPad with Apple Pencil.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review. As the solo developer behind Papering, it honestly means a lot to hear that the little details — the binder, page turning, calendar, and focus mode — are making the experience feel the way I hoped it would. I’m still at the very beginning, and I’ll keep carefully improving Papering while staying true to that real binder experience. Thank you for being here from the start!
