Fantastic Idea

Great app. I hope they continue developing it.

The secure vault!

The most secure way to store passwords in 2026. Have been a user for many years. We will see a resurgence in the need for this technology in the future, I’m sure of it!

Truly simple and truly secure

Take the time to understand this simple tool. You will undoubtedly see its value. Open source and security need to be on the minds of everyone. How can we be transparent with our thoughts, plans and dreams and remain secure? This is an answer.

iOS 18 App crashes

Kudos to the developers! Such an amazing app, please resolve the issue post iOS 18 upgrade, app just keeps crashing !!!!! Will find it quite hard to port everything to another provider

Exactly what we all need

Here’s how you keep your most private passwords private. Unhackably perfect!

THE password manager to use.

High security and ease of use, nothing else comes close. If you can remember your name and a secret word or phrase that’s all you need to create very secure passwords for any site or services.

A little intimidating,

Yeah at first it’s a little intimidating, so I suggest setting up on a website/account that isn’t too important and easy to reset your PW if needed. But once you understand how the system works and how brilliant it is. Honestly there’s no going back. I still have my Lastpass, but for my very important accounts that I absolutely cannot risk anything happening too, I’ll actually use this app. Just don’t go changing the settings after you’ve already set the PW. Lol

Great developer!

Excellent app with easy to use interface. Simple solution to a very complicated issue of storing passwords safely. Been using it for a couple of years now with only one minor issue. Sometimes the app would get “stuck” after the password is entered but if I close it and reopen the issue resolves.

Excruciatingly slow development. Abandonware?

As a long-time paying user of Master Password, I am compelled to say it is a brilliant app in concept. Unfortunately, it successor Spectre suffers from a poor UI and painfully slow development. As a result, I still use Master Password daily, instead of Spectre. A password manager is only useful if it is available across mobile devices and desktops alike.

For at least the last two years, the Spectre.app website has claimed 'coming to these other platforms soon'. Upon launch of Spectre as the successor to Master Password, I supported the dev immediately with an annual subscription of $40.99.
Projects like this deserve support, and I put my money where my mouth is. Unfortunately, little has changed since.

Its predecessor, Master Password was available for MacOS, and was available on iOS until it disappeared from the app store, leaving only Spectre. Sure, the Spectre iPad app will run on MacOS with M1 chips or higher, but it is a frustratingly buggy experience, to say the least. I have submitted detailed Spectre feedback multiple times and received no response whatsoever, even though I have communicated with the dev in the past regarding Master Password.

The developer effectively killed off Master Password: its website now redirects to Spectre.app and the app is no longer available via the App Store
In essence, he forced loyal customers to accept a replacement app that is both limited to iPad only ánd more complicated to use. All for the low, low annual price of $40.99 if you want to use all features. The developer states on spectre.app (under community) that Spectre is 'a personal project'. Ergo, a pet project that is low on the priority list of daily tasks. Password management is way too important to be left to the whims of a single man.

Dev, if you no longer have the desire or time to work on Spectre, that's your prerogative, but then please consider open sourcing the project so others may build on the foundation you created. Master Password/Spectre is too revolutionary a concept to just let wither away and die. In addition, it is disingenious to ask Spectre customers for subscription fees if you yourself no longer consider development a priority, for whatever reason.

Look elsewhere for password management that is reliable and under active development.

Good, but a bit misleading

I like the concept and the simplicity.

What drives me nuts is that it claims “free for everyone, forever”… then you get in and many of the basic functions are behind a subscription pay wall. I have no problem with donating to open source projects I use, but I do have a problem with misleading people by misrepresenting things.

As for the subscription, I struggle to reason for such to be.

Great

Have been using Master Password for years before it was Spectre, happy to support the developer in this new iteration. App works great - best way to manage your passwords!

Only complaint is I can’t seem to figure out how to hide the passwords from showing as text in the list.

A marvelous accomplishment!

If you have been wondering how to find a secure password system free of lockboxes and similar tech which act as an open invitation to be cracked or broken, then check out Spectre!

App Closes after I put in password

So I’ve been using this app for a few years now. Was very pleased until recently. I’m using the on device only version. In other words I don’t let it connect to the internet. On my IPad Pro, when I type in the password and hit enter the app just closes. I need access to my passwords. I’m dead in the water! Also when it was working, sometimes I would type in my password and the loading icon would just spin. I would have to close and try again. PLEASE HELP! _____________________________________ Review Update: Great developer! Solved problem. Been using the app from the beginning. They keep updating it and making it better all the time. I highly recommend this app.

Response from developer

Thank you for the review World Peas! Login names can still be added to the site. If you reach out to support@spectre.app I’d be happy to show you how.

Love this app

It’s great that I do not have to worry about backing up my password as it’s so platform agnostic and I can log it to retrieve my password from wherever I want

Missing keyboard symbols in ios

The colon and semi-colon symbols are missing when trying to enter a website URL in the site name field. Dev very responsive and is following up.

Response from developer

Hi dabigoreo, thank you for alerting us and the public of this issue you're facing. We really want to help get this sorted for you, but communicating through reviews is not very optimal. We'd love to get to the bottom of this with you, and the best way of doing that might be if you could send us a screenshot of your local keyboard in both the before-and-after-state of pressing the [123] key to support@spectre.app. We take usability concerns very seriously and want your and the public's experience to be as smooth as possible. Thanks again for pointing this out.

Patch 3.1.5

Absolutely fantastic app…just have a rather big problem after the latest patch…immediately after opening the app and entering my password it will crash back to my iOS Home Screen…I’m on an iPhone 11 with software version 15.5….any suggestions?

Amazing

App needs little work on some of the finer details but the whole idea of this trumps most password managers and I feel safe and secure using it anywhere team are cool and clearly smart stay classy spectre
