Unlocking cat avatars takes time investment. It takes 900 coins worth of in-game material to rescue a cat.
The coins earned is tied to whether the player wins or not. The player gain 100 coins if they win, and the player gains 36 coins if they lose. Played 5 rounds, won twice & lost 3 times. 40% win rate and 60% lose rate due to random generation of players against players.

You’re right that rescuing new cat avatars needed a good amount of playtime, especially when coin rewards depended mostly on wins. We listened to feedback like this and have now added Daily Challenges, which give players many more rewards through regular play — not only from winning races.
