About
Find out what actually lands in your bank account.
Not your salary. Not your hourly rate times your hours. The number after federal tax, Social Security, Medicare, your state, and the city or county that taxes you.
Type your pay once and see it broken down to the cent.
WHAT IT WORKS OUT
Federal withholding using the IRS Publication 15-T percentage method for automated payroll systems. That is the same method your employer's payroll software runs, which is why the answer matches your stub instead of approximating from annual filing brackets.
All 50 states and Washington DC. Flat states, graduated states, and the nine with no wage tax at all. California uses the state's own Method B exact calculation and reproduces the published worked example to the cent. New York uses the state's own exact calculation method.
LOCAL TAX, WHICH MOST CALCULATORS SKIP
New York City and Yonkers. Philadelphia. Ohio municipal tax for Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron and Dayton. All 24 Maryland counties, including the graduated schedules in Anne Arundel and Frederick. Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint. Kansas City and St. Louis. Indiana counties. Portland Metro and Multnomah County. Denver and Aurora. Louisville and Lexington. Birmingham.
Somewhere else? Type your local rate and it is applied to every calculation. More than 5,000 US jurisdictions levy an income tax and no app can list them all, so this one lets you fill the gap yourself.
Disability and paid leave deductions too: California SDI, New York PFL, New Jersey TDI and FLI, Washington Cares, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Hawaii.
EVERY PAY PERIOD, FROM ONE ENTRY
Weekly, every two weeks, twice a month, monthly and yearly, side by side, plus what you take home per hour actually worked. One screen, one entry.
THE DETAIL THAT CHANGES THE NUMBER
Overtime at any multiplier, double time, tips, commission and bonus at the flat supplemental rate. Pre-tax and after-tax deductions with the correct base applied to each: a 401(k) lowers income tax but not Social Security or Medicare, health premiums lower all three, and Pennsylvania taxes retirement deferrals while New Jersey taxes your HSA. Getting those right is the difference between an estimate and your actual stub.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE
No account. No sign in. No network requests at all. Every tax table is built into the app, so it works on a plane and the developer never sees a thing about what you earn.
Every result carries the tax year it was worked out from, so you can see at a glance that it is current.
FREE FOREVER, IN WRITING
There are no ads in this app and there never will be. The calculator, every state, local tax, overtime and the all-periods table are free, and nothing that is free today will be moved behind the paywall in a later version.
